The purpose of this study was to examine whether there would be any significant relationships between mother's communication pattern perceived by children, children's self-esteem and children's psychological well-being
The research questions raised in this study were as follows:
First, what are the relationships between mother's communication pattern perceived by children and children's psychological well-being.
Second, what are the relationships between children's self-esteem and children's psychological well-being.
The participants in this study were 181 children in the sixth grades sampled from one elementary school located in Cheongju City, Chungbuk. Test of mother's communication pattern perceived by children, test of self-esteem, test of psychological well-being were used for this study. To analyze the collected data, the t-test was adopted using the SPSS program.
The major results of this study were as follows:
First, there was a statistically significant difference in children's psychological well-being between effective mother's communication pattern group and dysfunctional mother's communication pattern group. In other words, the effective mother's communication pattern had a benefical effect to children's psychological well-being.
Second, there was a statistically significant difference in children's psychological well-being between higher group and lower group of self-esteem.
