청소년의 성격적 강점과 학교생활 적응도 간의 관계 = (The) Relationship between Character Strength and School Adjustment in Adolescents

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 긍정심리학적 입장에서 청소년의 성격적 강점과 학교생활 적응도 간의 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 남녀 청소년 476명의 성격 강점 척도, 학교생활 적응 척도 자료가 분석되었으며, 주요 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다.
성격적 강점은 학교생활 적응도와 통계적으로 유의미한 정적 상관을 보였다. 학교생활 적응의 하위 요인인 학업적응에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 성격 강점 덕목은 ‘지혜와 지식’, ‘초월성’, ‘절제’, ‘인간애’, ‘용기’ 순으로 나타났다. 이 중 창의성, 호기심, 개방성, 학구열, 통찰 강점을 포함한 ‘지혜와 지식’ 덕목이 학업적응을 높이는 데 가장 큰 역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 사회적응에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 성격 강점 덕목은 ‘인간애’, ‘초월성’, ‘지혜와 지식’, ‘절제’ 순으로 나타났다. 이 중 사랑, 친절, 사회성 강점을 포함한 ‘인간애’ 덕목이 사회적응을 높이는 데 가장 큰 역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 학교환경 및 일반적응에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 성격 강점 덕목은 ‘초월성’, ‘인간애’, ‘지혜와 지식’, ‘용기’ 순으로 나타났다. 이 중 감상력, 감사, 희망, 유머, 영성 강점을 포함한 ‘초월성’ 덕목이 학교환경 및 일반적응을 높이는 데 가장 큰 역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
본 연구 결과는 지혜와 지식, 인간애, 초월성과 같은 강점 덕목이 학교생활 적응의 세 하위 유형 모두에 공통적으로 영향을 미치며, 이와 같은 성격적 강점의 계발이 학교생활 적응도를 높일 수 있음을 보여준다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 시사점과 제한점 및 후속연구를 위한 제언에 대하여 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examined the relationship between character strength and school adjustment in adolescents from a positive psychological perspective. The analysis was made based on data obtained from 476 adolescents with questionnaires on character strength and school adjustment. The results of this study are as follows.
First, character strength showed statistically significant positive correlations with school adjustment.
Second, ‘Wisdom and knowledge’, ‘Transcendence’, ‘Temperance’, ‘Humanity’ and ‘Courage’ were significant predictors of academic adjustment. Particularly, ‘Wisdom and knowledge’ was a most significant predictor of academic adjustment. ‘Humanity’, ‘Transcendence’, ‘Wisdom and knowledge’ and ‘Temperance’ were significant predictors of social adjustment. Particularly, ‘Humanity’ was a most significant predictor of social adjustment. ‘Transcendence’, ‘Humanity’, ‘Wisdom and knowledge’ and ‘Courage’ were significant predictors of general adjustment. Particularly, ‘Transcendence’ was a most significant predictor of general adjustment.
These findings indicated that character strengths related to ‘Wisdom and knowledge’, ‘Humanity’ and ‘Transcendence’ may have positive effects for school adjustment. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study, and suggestions for further studies were discussed.
