This study aims to find out whether the parent's parenting attitude vary depending on the gender and grade of their children and what influence it has on children's self-regulation ability, to pursue a desirable parenting attitude and to make suggestions for the direction of parent education. In order to achieve the objective of this study as said above, the following issues of the study were decided on:

First, does the parent's parenting attitude vary according to the genderand grade of their children?
Second, does children's self-regulation ability vary according to the gender and grade?
Third, what influence does the parent's parenting attitude have on the children's self-regulation ability?

In order to identify the above issues, this study investigated the parent's parenting attitude that children recognizes and children's self-regulation ability according to the gender and grade with the subjects of 651 male and female pupils in two elementary schools' third and sixth grades and in two middle schools' third grade in Jinju. The parent's parenting attitude was surveyed using the questionnaire produced by Lee, Jong Seung and Oh, Seong Sim (1982) and revised and supplemented by Song, Hyeon Jeong (1998). The self-regulation ability was researched using the questionnaire produced by Heo, Jeong Kyeong (2003) based on the theory of Miller (2000). The data collected was analyzed using SPSS 12.0 for Windows through the mean, standard deviation, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis.

The result of this study was as follows:

First, female children were shown to perceive the parent's parenting attitude more positively than male children and the elementary schools' third and sixth-grade pupils appeared to perceive the mother's parenting attitude more positively than the middle school's third-grade pupils.
Second, as for self-regulation ability, female children's was shown to be greater than male children's, and it was in the order of the elementary schools' third-grade pupils, sixth-grade pupils and the middle school's third-grade pupils.
Third, it could be seen that the achievement-non-achievement realm and the parent's affection-hostility realm of the same-sex parent's parenting attitude has the greatest influence on both male and female children. In addition, the self-regulation realm of the parent's parenting attitude was shown to have the greatest influence on the behavioral realm of the self-regulation ability.

From the above study result, it could be seen that the parent's parenting attitude has much influence on children's self-regulation abilities. Thus, in order to enhance children's self-regulation abilities, the parent's affectionate and achievement-oriented patenting attitude is required and in addition, parent education is deemed necessary for a desirable upbringing of children.
