한국어 교육을 위한 칭찬-반응 화행 대응쌍 연구 = A study on Adjacency Pair of Compliment-Response speech act for Korean Language Teaching

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간이 언어를 배우려는 궁극적인 목적은 원활한 의사소통에 있다. 원활한 의사소통을 위해서는 언어에 대한 언어학적 지식뿐만 아니라 사회언어학적 능력 즉, 언어에 내재되어 있는 사회·문화적 배경이나 정서적 특성에 대한 이해도 갖춰야 한다. 언어는 그 안에 사회·문화적 배경이나 정서적 특성을 담고 있기 때문에 이를 잘 알지 못하면 의사소통 시 실패를 경험할 수도 있다. 이러한 사실에 초점을 맞추어 연구된 이론이 ‘화행 이론’이다.
요즘 한국어 교육에서도 이러한 화행 교육의 중요성이 대두되면서 개별 화행에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 하지만 ‘칭찬 화행’은 다른 화행과는 다르게 정보를 전달하는 기능을 하지 않는 경우가 많고, 주로 다른 화행과 함께 사용되기 때문에 그 중요성이 간과되어 연구가 미흡한 실정이다.
이에 본 논문에서는 한국어 학습자를 위한 칭찬-반응 화행 교육의 필요성을 제기하고, 이에 대한 연구를 진행하려 한다. 칭찬 화행과 칭찬 반응 화행을 개별 화행이 아닌 대응쌍의 개념으로 보고, 문화적 차이로 인해 발생하는 화행 상의 차이를 고려하여 교육함으로써 학습자의 의사소통 능력을 높이는 데 본 논문의 목적이 있다.
먼저 Ⅰ장에서는 연구 목적을 기술하고, 선행 연구를 살펴보았다.
Ⅱ장에서는 화행 이론, 대응쌍 이론, 비교 문화론적 관점에서의 화행을 살펴봄으로써 이 연구의 이론적 토대를 마련하였다.
Ⅲ장에서는 칭찬 화행의 전반적인 양상을 살펴보았는데 칭찬 및 칭찬 반응의 개념, 칭찬 화행의 기능과 특징, 그리고 칭찬 및 칭찬 반응 화행의 유형을 구체적으로 살펴보았다.
Ⅳ장에서는 드라마 대본을 분석의 대상으로 삼아 한국어 모어 화자의 칭찬-반응 화행 대응쌍을 분석하였다. 드라마 대본을 자료로 칭찬 주제와 칭찬 반응 유형을 분석하고, 사회적 변인별로 한국어 모어 화자가 선호하는 칭찬 반응 유형을 살펴보았다. 그리고 사회적 변인을 기준으로 여섯 가지 상황을 설정하여 각 상황에서 자주 사용되는 칭찬 반응 유형을 살펴보았다.
Ⅴ장에서는 한국어 교육에서의 칭찬-반응 화행 교육 현황을 살펴보기 위해 현 한국어 교재를 분석하였는데, 칭찬-반응 화행이 다양하게 반영되지 못하였다는 문제점을 발견하였다. 그래서 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위한 교재 구성 방안을 기술하였다. 특히 교재 안의 대화체 텍스트 구성에 초점을 맞추어 현 한국어 교재에 반영된 칭찬-반응 화행을 재구성함으로써 실례를 제시하였다.
마지막으로 Ⅵ장에서는 앞에서 말한 내용을 요약하여 기술함으로써 본 논문을 마무리하였다.
본 논문은 한국어 학습자들이 실제 만나게 되는 칭찬 상황에서 가장 적절한 칭찬-반응 화행을 할 수 있는데 도움을 주기 위한 연구로, 다양한 변인을 기준으로 한국어 모어 화자들이 선호하는 칭찬 반응 유형을 제시하였다는 것에 의의가 있다. 그리고 현 한국어 교재를 분석함으로써 문제점을 지적하고, 다양한 칭찬-반응 화행 대응쌍이 한국어 교재에 반영되어야 함을 제언하였다.
앞으로 칭찬-반응 화행에 대한 연구가 꾸준히 지속되어 좀 더 실제적이고 유용한 표현들이 정리되어 한국어 교재에 반영됨으로써 한국어 학습자들의 의사소통 능력 향상에 도움을 줄 수 있기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ultimate purpose of learning a language is in perfect communication. In order to communicate perfectly, we should not only know the linguistic knowledge but also hold the socio-linguistic competence, which means that we should understand social and cultural backgrounds as well as emotional features included in a language. If we fail to achieve these factors, we could experience the unsatisfying communication, because a language has social and cultural backgrounds and emotional features in itself. The Speech Act is a theory focused on this fact.
Recently, as the importance of speech act teaching in Korean language teaching is also getting emerging, studies on each speech act are vigorously activated. However, 'compliment act' which is different from the other speech acts usually doesn't function as an information conveyer, and its importance is neglected and it is rarely studied because it is used with the other speech acts.
Therefore, the necessity of compliment-response speech act for Korean learners is raised and studied in this thesis. The purpose of this study is to take compliment act and compliment-response speech act for adjacency pair not for separated concepts, and to improve communication abilities of learners through the education in which the difference of speech act caused by cultural difference is taken account.
In Chapter I, the purpose of the study is described and the precedent studies are investigated.
In Chapter Ⅱ, a theoretical foundation is built through discussing speech act theory, adjacency pair theory, and speech act in the viewpoint of comparative culture.
In Chapter Ⅲ, general aspects of compliment speech act are investigated. Especially, the concepts of compliment and compliment-response, the functions and features of compliment speech act, and the types of compliment and compliment-response speech acts are dealt in detail.
In Chapter Ⅳ, the adjacency pair of Korean native speakers' compliment-response speech acts excerpted from the drama scripts are analyzed. The types of both subjects of praises and compliment-responses are analyzed, and the types of compliment-responses, which are Korean native speakers' favorites, are discussed in response to the social determinants. Also, on the basis of social determinants, six situations are established, and the types of compliment-responses which are most commonly used in each situation are investigated.
In Chapter V, Korean teaching materials are analyzed in order to examine the present status of the compliment-response speech act education in Korea. It reveals that there are some problems in that the compliment-response speech acts are not well-reflected in the materials. Therefore, some methods for designing teaching materials are described to solve these problems. Especially, good examples are suggested through rebuilding compliment-response speech acts which are reflected in the present Korean teaching materials, while rebuilding the acts is focused on the organization of conversational texts in the materials.
In Chapter VI, the contents discussed in former chapters are summarized as a conclusion.
The meaning of this study which is for Korean learners who can be advised to perform appropriate compliment-response speech acts in the real praise situations that can be encountered in daily lives is in the fact that Korean native speakers' favorite compliment-response types are suggested. Also, some problems are pointed out through analyzing the present Korean teaching materials and it is suggested that various adjacency pairs of compliment-response speech acts should be reflected in Korean teaching materials.
It is anticipated that more realistic and useful expressions in Korean teaching materials can help the Korean language learners improve their communication abilities with continuous studies on compliment-response speech acts.
