In this study, based on the small traders and enterprisers of cosmetic service industry, we target to research the effect of background characteristics and psychological characteristics, which are parts of personal characteristics, on management performance. On this, we research on the operators who are engaged in cosmetic service industry. On the other hand, there are many factors that have effect on small traders and enterprisers' personal characteristics on management performance, but we restrict the research only on the personal characteristics.
That is because most of the cosmetic services are in a small scale operation. Considering such a situation, personal characteristic plays a very important role in the management performance. Therefore, the factors, which have effect on small traders and enterprisers' management performance, are limited to personal characteristics only.
This research was conducted on customers living in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do. A total of 200 questionnaires were collected, but due to omitted answers or dishonest answers 8 questionnaires were discarded and a total of 192 questionnaires were used in this research.
To find out the response of the sample group and demography distribution, a frequency analysis was carried out based on the collected data. And to officially approve the reliability and adequacy of the measure tool, a factor analysis and reliability analysis were carried out. To officially approve the hypothesis of this research, one-way ANOVA and a multiple regression analysis were executed. SPSS 12.0 was used to deal with statistical data and all the other necessary analysis.
The analysis results in the study are as follows. First, in the established hypothesis1, we suppose that a manager's education, age and experience, which belong to the background characteristic, have effect on management performance. However, hypothesis 1 is rejected. In the hypothesis 2, a part of managers' psychological characteristics are adopted. In hypothesis 2-1 and hypothesis 2-2, the manager's need for achievement and management risk-taking propensity have an effect on management performance. But in hypothesis 2-3, we suppose the manager's ambiguity tolerance have effect on management performance, while the hypothesis is rejected.
