One of parts emphasized in musical education is the development of ‘creative expression abilities.’ In the current field of education, however, most of musical education is performed through teacher?centered theory and singing classes. As a result, students lose interest in music and there is difference in participation between learners who have studied theories in advance and those who have not. In order to solve these problems and to enhance students’ creativity and class participation, this study proposed effective music class teaching plans based on a systematic review of Carl Orff’s teaching method.
The subjects of this study were 7^(th)-grade students, and the plan was made centering on creativity activities, which are easily neglected in the field, among signing, instrumental, composition and appreciation activities. Orff’s teaching method can be utilized effectively in creativity activities area.
In the teaching plan proposed in this study, first, students can experience ‘Cadence chorus,’ which has been taught only theoretically while playing a game, and this is expected to enhance the students’ class participation. Second, in ‘expressing various sounds’ and ‘making music with sounds’ for improving students’ creativity, students can express their musical feelings from daily life in their own ways through inquiry and imitation. The application of the teaching plan can internalize creative expression abilities smoothly through inquiry and imitation, physical expression, improvisation, etc.
If this teaching plan is utilized not only in creativity but also in singing, instrument playing, and appreciation, it may promote student?centered all?round education, getting away from traditional cramming education.
If the music curriculum is organically combined with other subjects (Korean language, fine arts, dance, etc.) for the application of Orff’s teaching method, interdisciplinary classes may be executed more effectively.
The teaching plan proposed in this study was not tested through application to actual classes. Thus, further research is necessary in order to verify the proposed contents.
