The investigation was accomplished by collecting date from 437 Day Care Centers teachers in Seoul. To analyze the data, Percentage, Frequency, χ^(2)-test, ANOVA, and Duncan post hoc test were used.
The results of the study were as follows ;
First, more than 50% teachers reported that fairy tale-telling activities were very necessary. As the effects of this activities, 'the development of children's creativity and thinking faculty' was mostly considered, and 'verbal development' was secondly considered. As the criteria for selecting fairy tales, the relations to day schedule were mostly considered, and then children's interests and requests was considered. Teachers of 3 year old classes more prefered children's interests and requests as a criterion than teachers of 4 or 5 year old classes did. In the plans of telling fairy tales, the telling method were regarded mostly importent, and then calm atmosphere was regarded.
Second, the most frequently selected kind of fairy taled was Korean creative fairy tales. The reason to choose this kind was that this was most commonly found materials in Day Care Centers. The time when fairy tales were told was not particularly decided. The frequency of telling fairy tales was 2-4 times a week and more than 5 times for the younger children. The time required for telling was mostly shorter than 10 min., especially for 3 year old children. One fairy tale was told at one time. The most frequently asked question type by teachers was one of analysis approach rather than experience approach. The mostly used method of telling was using pictures, and the method which children mostly liked was using dolls.
Third, the mostly done activities after telling fairy tales was discussing or thinking about the tales told. The biggest problems in telling fairy tales were lack of time for teachers to prepare materials and difficulties to obtain materials.
Forth, teachers' efforts for fairy tale-telling activities were 'collecting information about storybook' and 'exchanging information with other teacher'. The reading corners were generally managed including verbal corners. Children's developmental levels were firstly considered in exhibition of storybook, especially in 3 year old classes.
Fifth, the fairy tale materials were generally purchased, and the equipments of reading corners were small desks, bookstands, and carpets. Teachers in their twenties, teachers having longer than 8 year careers, teachers graduated university, and teachers having first grade certificate provided more equipments than other teachers.
