The purpose of this study is to explore the features that have in common and that are different between 'Park-Ssi-Jeon(박씨전)' and 'Yim-Kyung-Up-Jeon(임경업전)', two ancient novels dealing with Pyung-Ja-Ho-Ran, on the basis of their characters, their structure and their author's consciousness.
Its contents are as follows ;
First, 'Park-Ssi-Jeon' is a creative novel combined legendary main characters with historical characters. 'Yim-Kyung-Up-Jeon', however, is a biographical novel put historical main characters together with legendary ones.
Second, 'Park-Ssi-Jeon' is a modular work fabricated by Park Ssi, Lee Si-bag, Yim Kyung-Up and Kei-Hwa but 'Yim-Kyung-Up-Jeon' is a novel just Yim Kyung-Up is centered.
Third, 'Park-Ssi-Jeon' shows an Anti-Ch'eong to compensate th national humiliation. In contrast, even though Ch'eong is the object revenged. 'Yim-Kyung-Up-Jeon' reveals a consciousness of Ch'eong-ikeness.
Fourth, 'Park-Ssi-Jeon' is a work configulated the heroines, Park-Ssi, main actoress, and Kei-Hwa, girl-maid but 'Yim-Kyung-Up-Jeon' is one described a main hero, Yim Kyung-Up.
Fifth, the author of 'Park-Ssi-Jeon' is a strong confucius person who has the ieda of Anti-Ch'eong. Though the author of 'Yim-Kyung-Up-Jeon' has the strong confucianism, he is a realistic fellow.
Sixth, their background is Pyung-Ja-Ho-Ran. More precisely. it is form the period of factional seperation like Won-Dang(원당:原黨) and Nak-Dang(낙당:落黨) after Inzo-Ban-Jeong to the time of Pyung-Ja-Ho-Ran.
Seventh, on account of Lee Si-bag, 'Park-Ssi-Jeon' based on the legend is analized and evaluated as one of the novels written at the time of Pyung-Ja-Ho-Ran.
The earlier traditional studies have paid attention to the respective work. This study, however, deals with the historical configulation of Pyung-Ja-Ho-Ran and it's application to the novels.
I hope there will be more studies to identify the signification of the novels I mentioned above and their location.
