With the purpose of analyzing opinions of demonstration teams belonging to taekwondo-related institutions to obtain fundamental data about components of demonstration programs, such as basic motions, poomsae, smashing, self-defense martial art, and taekwon gymnastics, and devise a scheme of activating self-defense martial art demonstration, this study drew the following conclusions.
First, taekwondo demonstration today is rapidly developing as an activity to improve values of taekwondo by introducing general contents of taekwondo and demonstrating its techniques. On the ground of theoretical researches, taekwondo demonstration becomes more systematic and specialized as compared with the past; this attempt is being made in demonstration as a whole.
Second, interest in components of taekwondo demonstration varied by gender, demonstration career, and the taekwondo grade. Female respondents were much interested in basic motions, poomsae, and taekwon gymnastics, while male ones were much interested in smashing and self-defense martial art. Respondents with demonstration career of ten years or more were much interested in self-defense martial art. Regardless of demonstration career, they were much interested in smashing, while they were relatively less interested in taekwon gymnastics.
Third, with the rapid development of taekwondo demonstration, the audience has got an appreciative eye, and the need to change components of demonstration has seriously been suggested to meet their requirements. Male respondents had more demand for changes in the entire demonstration programs than female ones, who showed higher demand in the section of taekwon gymnastics alone. There was no significant difference in basic motions or poomsae by career; respondents with demonstration career of ten years or more demanded changes in the sections of self-defense martial art and smashing.
Fourth, most respondents showed negative attitudes toward satisfaction with and educational use of self-defense martial art demonstration. With higher career and grade, female respondents were less satisfied with self-defense martial art than male ones. As for activation of self-defense martial art demonstration, male respondents wanted to devise a scheme of activating demonstration in the technical aspect, while female ones tended to devise a scheme of activating it in the visual aspect.
