This study is to analyze the relationship between achievement goal orientation and academic achievement among teachers, parents and children on elementary school. The paper classifies achievement goal orientation of teachers, parents and children into four types which are suggested by Pintrich (2000). The achievement goal orientation of teachers, parents means their orientation which is perceived by students. The types are mastery approach goal, mastrery avoicance goal, performance approach goal and performance avoidance goal. The paper poses some questions to 200 students, parents and teacher who are concerned to the B elementary school in Jeonju city in South Korea.
The concrete questions and their results of the study are as follows:
Firstly, how does the achievement goal orientation of students relate to the goal orientation of parents and teachers? This paper shows that teachers 'orientation may explain 11% of the variable on mastery approach goal of students. Parents' goal orientation relates positively to 10% of the one of students. Especially the performance approach goal of parents influences mostly on students' performance approach goal. The second influence on the goal of students is the mastery goal of parents. The performance avoidance goal of parents has some effect on the performance avoidance goal of students.
Secondly, how does the academic achievement of students connect with the achievement goal orientation of parents and teacher? The analysis presents that the mastery goal of parents affects meaningfully about 4% of the improvement of academic achievement of students. The mastery goal of teachers also has large positive relationship with the mastery goal of students.
Finally, what is the relationship the academic achievement and the achievement goal orientation of students? Five percents of the variance the academic achievement of students might be explained by the orientation of students. The study proves that the nearer the mastery goal of students the higher the academic achievements of them.
As the paper gives empirical evidence to some study of achievement goal orientation, it has some educational implication on the analysis of various variables of academic achievement in elementary school.
