The Influences of Parent's Marital Intimacy and Adult Children's Self Differentiation on Couple Relationship

The purpose of this study was to determine influences of experience, particularly parent's marital intimacy felt in a period of growth, and adult children's self differentiation on couple relationship.
This study was conducted with husbands and wives (109, respectively) in their thirties to less than sixties living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province who completed the questionnaire; the results went through t-test and ANOVA to see differences in adult children's self differentiation and couple relationship by socio-demographic variables, paired t-test was analyzed to see differences in parent's marital intimacy and adult children's self differentiation and couple relationship, and multiple regression analysis was performed to determine influences of parent's marital intimacy and adult children's self differentiation on couple relationship.
This study obtained the following results.
First, there was no significant difference in adult children's self differentiation by socio-demographic variables but there were differences in marital intimacy by age and occupation. The younger group showed a higher level of marital intimacy; professional occupation was high, while blue-collar occupation was remarkably low. The level of marital conflicts was lower in husband-wife family than in nuclear or expanded ones.
Second, there was no statistically significant correlation between parent's marital intimacy and the level of adult children's self differentiation; wives were found to recognize marital conflicts more highly than husbands.
Third, the higher parent's marital intimacy and the higher level of adult children's self differentiation, the higher their marital intimacy; the lower parent's marital intimacy and the lower level of self differentiation, the higher marital conflicts adult children showed.
This study is significant in that it considered objective situations by examining parent's marital intimacy among variables and conducted a research with couples of husband and wife.

자기분화가 부부관계에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 원가족 경험 중 특히 성장기에 느낀 부모의 부부친밀감과성인자녀의 자기분화가 부부관계에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다.
서울시와 경기도에 거주하는 30대 이상 60대 미만의 설문에 응답한 남편과 아내 각각 109명을 연구대상으로 하였으며, 결과분석 방법은 사회인구학적 변인에 따른 성인자녀의 자기분화 및 부부관계의 차이를 알아보기 위해 t-검증 및 분산분석(ANOVA)을 실시하였으며, 성인자녀 부부에 있어서 원가족 부모의 부부친밀감, 자기분화와 부부관계는 부부간에 어떠한 차이가 있는지 알아보기 위해 t-test를 실시하였다. 마지막으로 원가족부모의 부부친밀감과 성인자녀의 자기분화가 부부관계에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 사회인구학적 변인에 따라 성인자녀의 자기분화는 유의미한 차이가 없으나 부부친밀감은 연령과 직업에 따라 차이를 보였다. 연령이 낮은 집단에서 부부친밀감 수준은 높았으며, 직업은 전문직에서 다른 집단에 비해 차이를 보였다. 부부갈등은 핵가족과 확대가족에 비해 부부단독 가족의 갈등수준이 낮았다.
둘째, 원가족 부모의 부부친밀감과 성인자녀의 자기분화수준은 부부친밀감에는 통계적으로 서로 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났으며 부부갈등에서는 남편에 비해 부인이 더 높게 인지하는 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 원가족 부모의 부부친밀감과 성인자녀의 자기분화가 부부관계에 미치는 영향은 성인자녀의 부부친밀감은 원가족 부모의 부부친밀감이 높을수록, 자기분화가 높을수록 더 높게 나타났으며 성인자녀의 부부갈등은 원가족 부모의 부부친밀감이 낮을수록 자기분화 수준이 낮을수록 부부갈등이 높게 나타났다.
이러한 연구결과는 성인자녀의 부부관계에서 원가족 부모의 부부관계에 대한 경험이 영향을 미치며, 이것이 자녀의 자기분화의 정도에 따라서도 달라질 수 있음을 실증적으로 밝히게 된 점이 의의가 있다고 하겠다. 이는 가족을 체계적으로 조망해야 함을 시사한다는 점에서 차후의 가족상담연구에 기초자료로서 활용될 수 있다고 사료된다.
