구세군의 사회봉사에 관한 연구 : 역사적 및 신학적 고찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 사회봉사에 대한 역사적 고찰과 함께 구세군의 사회봉사의 실제를 모델로 제시하여 한국교회가 사회적 책임을 공감하고 실천하는데 도움을 주고자 작성되었다. 또한 사회봉사의 신학적 연구는 다른 분야에 비해 상대적으로 미미할 뿐만 아니라 복지국가를 지향하며 광범위한 복지정책을 펴나가는 현대의 추세에도 크게 못 미치는 형편임을 지적하였다.
이에 2장에서는 사회봉사의 개념을 알아보고 그 신학적 근거를 성서에서 찾아 사회봉사가 자기만족이나 선행을 위한 방편이 아니라 사회적 약자와 함께 온전한 공동체를 만들어나가야 하는 교회의 책임임을 살펴보았다. 또한 교회사를 통해 사회봉사의 변천과정을 살펴보았다. 사회봉사는 초대교회부터 중세교회까지 그리스도인의 당연한 의무로 여겨졌고, 시설 운영도 활발하였으나 종사자들의 타락으로 인한 변질도 있었다. 그러나 종교개혁자들은 올바른 사회봉사신학의 이론적 기초를 제시하고 사회에 적용하는 노력을 보여주었으며 이러한 운동은 사회 변혁에도 기여하였음을 확인하였다.
3장에서는 오늘날 사회봉사에 있어 많은 비중을 차지하고 있음에도 그 역사적 신학적 연구에 있어 도외시되고 있는 구세군의 사회봉사 역사와 창립자 윌리엄 부스의 신학사상, 그리고 구세군의 사회봉사신학에 대해 살펴보았다. 여기에는 존 웨슬리의 사상, 당시 영국의 현실, 그리고 윌리엄 부스의 사회적 약자를 위한 투쟁을 함께 기록했다.
4장에서는 국내 기독교의 역사는 사회봉사와 늘 함께 자리해 왔으며 선교초기와 6.25전쟁 후에는 사회봉사가 더욱 활발히 전개된 사례들을 살펴보았다. 또한 그 이후의 사회봉사는 복음전도에 비해 상대적으로 뒤처졌기에 사회봉사가 선교적 대안이 될 수 있음을 언급하였다.
5장 결론에서는 연구된 내용을 요약 정리하였고 사회봉사신학의 이론적 연구 확대의 바람과 함께 몇 가지 제언으로 논문을 마무리하였다.
앞으로도 사회봉사신학의 연구는 사회복지사업과 함께 계속되어져야 하고, 교회는 사회봉사를 거룩한 시민운동으로 승화시켜 나가야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The following thesis as written by indicating both consideration of historic concern and the Salvation Army's reality work on social service volunteering. By completing this research, I hope that the Korean church itself will share and practice social responsibility. Also, religious research on social service when compared to other fields, is not only relatively ineffective but also far behind what the Government has planned for building a economically strong country as far as expectations and hopes are concerned.
In chapter 2, shows that social service is neither satisfactory nor expedient in building an unimpaired community working with people of feeble strength in society. And then through the affairs of the church, I looked into what has changed in the process of the social service. From the early ages to the medieval, it was a justly concerned duty although management of running establishments were somewhat in active, There were changes, because of the moral corruption of engagers. However, religious reformers did suggest proper ways of theoretical foundation and showed ways of adapting it. These activities contributed towards society reformation.
In chapter 3, In spite of the Army's vast work on devotional volunteer activities in the society, Their achievements have been somewhat ignored. Therefore, I looked into three things of the Salvations Army's historic volunteer work in society according to the Theological ideology of William Booth, A founder of Salvation Army and the Army's theology on social service in the society. In this later part of the chapter I record the ideology of John Wesley, actuality of England at that time, and the struggle of William to help the weak in society.
In chapter 4, I looked through and concluded that the history of Christianity has always been together with volunteer work of society, and also pointed-out how active they were during early periods of mission and after the korean war. Also, I mentioned that volunteer work has relatively been behind gospel preaching especially after the korean war. Therefore, I concluded that volunteer work is a way of conducting missionary preaching.
In chapter 5, conclusion, I summarize the contents of research. I hope that enlargements of society's better point of view on volunteer work have to continue with the welfare of society's reformation. The church itself carry on social service as sanctified citizen movements.
