This thesis aims to establish the criteria for the listedness and lexicalization and to examine the types of them, respectively. In this study, the listedness and lexicalization are applied to complex words in order. A complex word formed by combining two constituents(lexemes) is also regarded as a lexeme. A part of lexemes can be the listeme by being stored in a certain space of lexicon, and, similarly, a part of listemes can be lexicalized by diachronic changes.
In Chapter 2, I discuss the listedness of complex lexemes. Focusing on the listedness in light of formation, I research previous studies about the listedness in early Generative Morphology and present the notion and criteria of the listedness of complex lexemes based on the properties of coherence. I also examine three kinds of the listedness of complex lexemes and discuss so-called once-only rule critically from the view of the partial-listed hypothesis. In addition, I study the relationships between productivity and listedness of complex lexemes in light of coherence.
In Chapter 3, I investigate the lexicalization of the listemes. Some parts of listemes cannot fulfill the synchronic functional relations for diachronically external and internal changes. Presenting the notion and criteria of the lexicalization of listemes based on the properties of compositionality, I examine the phonological, morphological, and semantical lexicalization of listemes and the multi-layered aspects of lexicalization. Additionally, I focus on the transparency of complex lexemes in light of coherence and compositionality.
In Chapter 4, summarizing the thesis, I present the significance of this study and suggest further studies to be followed.
