한국 현대동화에 나타난 자아의 양상과 방어기제에 관한 연구 = Research on Aspects of Ego and Defence Mechanism in Korean Modern Fairy Tales

This study is an attempt at clarifying self-aspect and defence mechanism shown in Korea's modern fairy tales.
This endeavor is to shed light on meaning of psychological trait of ego, based on heroes in Korean modern fairy tales, through examination of ego aspect and defence mechanism.
As a result of research history on this study, I came to know that research on the protagonist's ego in modern fairy tales of korea has not been prosecuted sufficiently. As its cause I can indicate that ego has not revealed itself well enough in Korean modern fairy tales. That ego in fairy tales is not displayed well is deemed to point out that use of spiritual energy has not been well utilized, which makes korea's modern plays become little noted in the field of psychological study. However, we need to do study on ego to understand diverse aspects of life. while comprehending the use of spiritual energy for many children reading fairy tales, along with contribution to understanding of theme of korean modern fairly tales.
It is necessary to review fairy tales and ego for deeper research on modern fairy tales in Korea. Ego in fairy tales is located on some point of ego growth and in it we can find psychological world of fantasy, revealing the way a case is coped with. You can find inherent desire for ego in fairy tales. And ego in fairy tales and spiritual energy in it displays the degree of ego maturity. Protagonist in fairy tale is, in general, an immature figure, and such a hero in the fairy tale operates defense mechanism in him for ego protection. We can see that In korea's modern fairy tales, aspect of ego becomes different according to degree of hero's maturity. The aspect of ego in Korea's modern fairy tales were divided into three categories; ego appearing slowly, ego with impetus and inhibition conflicting with each other and ego in successful aspect with harmony and adaptation. "Stone gentleman" in "Stone Gentleman and Baby Star" is weak and feeble, a narcissistic figure, trying to avoid reality. In " Photograph study of Dream" I as hero try to satisfy desire, centered on dream which is realm of unconsciousness. Such kind of desire satisfaction shows ego aspect, which is unable to escape from spiritual energy of unconsciousness. The ego aspect where impetus and inhibition seriously conflict with each other is found in modern fairy tales like in " A black boy in Africa" and "Second hand bike". In "African Black Boy" I show hostile attitude of attack against the handicapped boy, Youngjun. In the process I feel awakening call of conscience called super-ego, showing a will to improve use of spiritual energy.
I reveal the aspect of ego, which aspire for maturity through Sang-Jun. In " Second hand Bike" the heroine, Young-Shin, displays confrontational behavior against her father due to affection for herself. However, in the end of the story, she shows the ego aspect, which needs the improvement in the use of impetus energy for her father.
We can see "Oseam rock" and " Puppy Poop" in modern fairy tales, which are related to successful ego equipped with harmony and adjustment. "Oseam", though the little kid at the age of five shows anxiety of growth process through behavior, reaches an ultimate purpose through effective use of ego. In the "Puppy Poop" the poop feels isolated from the world, causing it to have an anxiety of existence. However, by making use of ego energy effectively, which adjusts inner conflict and anxiety successfully with each other, it, the poop, blooms into beautify dandelion, showing successful aspect of ego. The aspect of ego in the hero shown in modern Korean fairy tales stems from operation of defence mechanism. In the works such as "Rock Lily and Baby Star" and "Photograph studio of Dream", we can detect self-awakening and defence mechanism. In “Rock Lily and Baby Star" the baby star is moved by immature self-awakening and neurotic self-protection mechanism. Examining self-defence mechanism operating in the baby's mentality, we can recognize the kid star is a type of fairy tale in which psychological energy is still feeble. The protagonist, I in " Photograph Studio of Dream" am immersed in past recollections by dint of unconsciousness in the form of mechanisms of pre-existence, compression and symbolization, but feel empty after waking, which is a new sort of self-awakening. In "African Black Boy" and " Second hand Bike" we can point out self-exploration and functioning of self-defence mechanism. In " African Black Boy" the hero reveals immature defence mechanism and neurotic defence mechanism in the process of coping with accidents, along with bellicosity of instinct. However, in the end it turns out to be a style of self-exploration which longs for mature defence mechanism. In "Second hand Bike" the heroine Youngshin in immature defence mechanism and neurotic defence mechanism shows hostile nature towards her father. However, finally realizing how much her father loves her, she shed tears, which indicates a type of self-exploration suggesting maturity. In " Oseam Rock" and " Puppy Poop" we can detect self-realization and defence mechanism. In "Oseam Rock" is a kind of fairy tale in which the hero, Kilson, undergoes diverse and mature defence mechanism, which enables him to realize ego in consummate form.
In " Puppy Poop", the poop bares conflicting process of existential value in the form of self-affection like self-defence. Afterwards, immature self-defence mechanism and neurotic defence mechanism operates, bringing about self-inhibition process. But at the end of the tale, mature defence mechanism materializes self-realization type in the form of blooming dandelion. In conclusion I am able to pursue and detect psychological trait of ego through research of ego aspect and defence mechanism. Firstly, I examine problem solution of ego. Secondly, I see that the hero's ego has his or her defence mechanism revealed in the process of solving problems. Thirdly, ego aspect and defence mechanism have influence on personality and maturity of humanity. Fourthly, according to psychological energy use of ego Korean modern fairy tales are divided into such styles like awakening style exploratory style and realization style.
Shedding light on psychological trait of ego, through research of ego aspect and defence mechanism shown in Korean modern fairy tales, I intend to contribute to understanding of Korean modern fairy tales.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 한국 현대동화에 나타난 자아의 양상과 방어기제에 관하여 규명하고자 한 시도이다. 이러한 시도는 한국 현대동화에 나타난 주인공을 중심으로 한 자아의 양상과 방어기제의 고찰을 통하여 자아의 심리적 특성을 조명하는 일이 된다.
연구를 위한 연구사 검토의 결과, 한국 현대동화에서 동화의 주인공의 자아에 대한 연구가 잘 이루어지지 않음을 살펴볼 수 있다. 그 원인으로 한국 현대동화에 자아가 제 모습이 잘 드러나지 못하고 있음을 지적할 수 있다. 동화에서 자아가 제 모습이 드러나지 못하는 일은 정신 에너지의 사용이 잘 드러나지 못하는 일이다. 이로 인하여 한국 현대동화는 심리학적 연구대상에서 주목을 받지 못하고 있다. 그러나 한국 현대동화의 주제의 이해에 기여하고, 동화를 읽는 많은 아동들의 정신 에너지의 사용에 관하여 이해하며, 삶의 다양한 국면에 대하여 이해하기 위하여 자아에 관한 연구가 필요하다.
한국 현대동화의 자아에 관한 연구를 위하여 동화와 자아에 관하여 살펴보는 일이 필요하다. 동화의 자아는 성장의 일정지점에 위치하며, 갈망하는 팬터지의 심리세계가 있고, 사건에 대한 대처법이 드러난다. 또한 동화는 자아의 욕망이 내재해 있다. 그리고 동화의 자아와 정신 에너지는 자아의 성숙도를 드러내게 된다. 동화의 주인공은 주로 미성숙한 인물이며, 이러한 동화의 주인공은 자아 보호를 위한 방어기제가 작동된다.
한국 현대동화에는 주인공의 성숙의 정도에 따라 자아의 양상이 달라짐을 살펴볼 수 있다. 한국 현대동화에 나타난 자아의 양상은 서서히 모습을 드러내는 자아, 충동과 억제로 요동치는 자아, 조화와 적응이 성공적인 자아의 양상으로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다. 서서히 모습을 드러내는 자아의 양상은 현대동화 <바위나리와 아기별>, <꿈을 찍는 사진관>에서 살펴볼 수 있다. <바위나리와 아기별>에서 바위나리는 나르시시즘의 인물로, 아기별은 현실을 회피하고자 하는 나약한 자아의 양상으로 드러난다. <꿈을 찍는 사진관>에서 나는 무의식의 영역인 꿈을 중심으로 의식의 세계에서의 소망을 충족하려고 한다. 이와 같은 소망 충족은 무의식의 정신 에너지에서 벗어나지 못하는 자아의 양상을 보여준다. 충동과 억제가 요동치는 자아의 양상에 관한 현대동화로는 <아프리카 새깜디>, <고물 자전거>를 살펴볼 수 있다. <아프리카 새깜디>에서 나는 장애가 있는 상준이를 향하여 공격성을 드러낸다. 그러한 과정에서 초자아의 양심의 경종을 느끼며 정신 에너지 사용에 대하여 개선하고자 하는 의지를 보인다. 나는 상준이를 통하여 성숙을 지향하는 자아의 양상을 드러낸다. <고물 자전거>의 주인공 영신이는 자기애로 인하여 아버지에 대한 공격성이 드러난다. 하지만 이야기 결말에서 아버지에 대한 자신의 충동적 에너지 사용에 대하여 개선의 필요성을 느끼는 자아의 양상을 보여준다. 조화와 적응이 성공적인 자아의 양상에 관한 현대동화로 <오세암>, <강아지 똥>을 살펴볼 수 있다. <오세암>은 5세인 길손이가 성장과정의 불안을 행동으로 드러내 보이지만 자아의 유효한 에너지 사용으로 궁극의 목표에 도달하게 된다. <강아지 똥>의 강아지 똥은 세상에서 소외되어 존재불안을 느끼게 된다. 하지만 내면의 불안과 갈등을 조절하는 자아 에너지를 유효하게 사용하여 민들레꽃을 피우는 성공적인 자아의 양상을 보여준다.
한국 현대동화에 나타난 주인공의 자아의 양상은 방어기제의 작동에서 비롯되고 있다. <바위나리와 아기별>, <꿈을 찍는 사진관>은 자아의 각성과 방어기제의 작동을 살펴볼 수 있다. <바위나리와 아기별>의 아기별은 미숙한 방어기제와 신경증적 방어기제가 작동된다. 아기별의 심리에 작동되는 방어기제를 살펴보면 아기별은 아직은 자아의 정신 에너지가 미약한 자아의 각성 유형의 동화이다. <꿈을 찍는 사진관>의 주인공인 나는 무의식의 꿈을 통하여 전치, 압축, 상징화의 기제가 작동되며 추억에 젖지만 깨어나 보니 꿈이라는 허탈감에 빠지게 되는 자아의 각성 유형을 보여준다. <아프리카 새깜디>, <고물 자전거>에서는 자아의 탐색과 방어기제의 작동을 살펴볼 수 있다. <아프리카 새깜디>에서 주인공은 사건에 대응하는 과정에서 미숙한 방어기제와 신경증적 방어기제가 작동되며 본능의 공격성이 드러난다. 하지만 결말에서 성숙한 방어기제를 지향하는 자아의 탐색 유형의 동화이다. <고물 자전거>에서 영신이는 아버지에게 공격성을 드러내며 미숙한 방어기제와 신경증적 방어기제가 작동된다. 하지만 결말에서 아버지의 애정을 깨닫고 눈물을 흘리며 성숙을 암시하는 자아의 탐색 유형을 드러낸다. <오세암>, <강아지 똥>에서는 자아의 실현과 방어기제의 작동을 살펴볼 수 있다. <오세암>에서 길손이의 심리에는 미숙한 방어기제와 신경증적 방어기제가 작동되며 자아의 갈등 양상이 드러난다. 그러나 길손이는 성숙한 방어기제가 다양하게 작동되며 승화의 경지에 이르는 자아의 실현 유형의 동화이다. <강아지 똥>에서 강아지 똥은 자기애적 방어기제로 존재가치에 대해 갈등하는 과정이 드러난다. 이후 미숙한 방어기제와 신경증적 방어기제가 작동되며 자아를 억제하는 과정이 드러난다. 이야기의 결말에서는 성숙한 방어기제로 민들레꽃을 피우게 하는 자아의 실현 유형을 보여준다.
한국 현대동화에 나타난 자아의 양상과 방어기제에 관한 연구를 통하여 자아의 심리적 특성을 고찰할 수 있다. 첫째, 자아의 문제해결을 보여준다. 둘째, 주인공의 자아는 문제를 해결하는 과정에서 방어기제가 작동된다. 셋째, 자아의 양상과 방어기제는 인간의 성숙과 퍼스낼리티에 영향을 끼친다. 넷째, 한국 현대동화는 자아의 정신 에너지 사용에 따라 각성 유형, 탐색 유형, 실현 유형으로 나눌 수 있다.
이 논문은 한국 현대동화에 나타난 자아의 양상과 방어기제에 관한 고찰을 통하여 자아의 심리적 특성을 조명함으로써 동화에 대한 이해에 기여하고자 한다.
