This purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between participation motivation and exercise adherence in hatha yoga participants. For doing this were conducted among 496 hatha yoga participants in heath fitness centers, yoga clubs and communities in the areas of Busan and Yangsan. The questionnaire used for this study was Korea Sport Participation Motivation Scale developed by Yonggak Jung(1997) and Korea Exercise Adherence Scale developed by Sunghun Choi(2005). This study utilized the statistical data analysis method including frequency analysis, T-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe, correlation analysis and regression analysis. A significant level of p <. 05 was used for all the statistical test.
The following findings were the result of this study:
First, the difference of participation motivation and exercise adherence on their background factors(age, participation frequency, participation time, participation period) in hatha yoga participants
There was significant difference in the age, participation frequency, participation time, participation period in participation motivation and in exercise abilities, exercise partners, exercise habits and exercise environments.
1) Over fifties expressed the most highest a external ostentation and exercise environments.
2) Over five times a week expressed the most highest a pleasure and condition but three times a week was highest technical advance & achievement and healthy & physical strength. Exercise partners, exercise habits and exercise environments were highest over five times a week.
3) Over two times expressed the most highest a pleasure, condition, exercise abilities, exercise partners and exercise habits.
4) Over two years was high in pleasure and condition but six month~ under one year expressed high value in exercise abilities. Exercise partners and exercise habits were highest over two years and exercise environments expressed high in one year∼ under two years.
Second, the relationship of participation motivation and exercise adherence in hatha yoga participants
There was significant relationship of participation motivation and exercise adherence in hatha yoga participants.
1) Exercise abilities are related with sociality, condition, technical advance & achievement, pleasure, healthy & physical strength.
2) Exercise partners are related with sociality, condition, healthy & physical strength. pleasure, external ostentation.
3) Exercise habits are related with pleasure, condition, technical advance & achievement, sociality.
4) Exercise environments are related with condition, sociality, technical advance & achievement, healthy & physical strength.
Third, the effect of participation motivation on exercise adherence in hatha yoga participants
Participation motivation in hatha yoga participants had influence on the their exercise adherence.
1) Sociality, condition, technical advance & achievement, pleasure, external ostentation and healthy & physical strength are influence in exercise abilities.
2) Sociality, condition, healthy & physical strength, pleasure and external ostentation are influence in exercise partners.
3) Pleasure, condition, technical advance & achievement and sociality are influence in exercise habits.
4) Condition, sociality, technical advance & achievement and healthy & physical strength are influence in exercise environments.
