The purpose of this study was to compare the daily life-oriented program and the literary access program to find out the effects of the literary access program on the infant's ability of language and thinking. For this purpose, the study established following hypotheses.
First, the group, called the test group, who is provided with the literary access program could have a higher score in the ability of language and thinking in the post-program test than the other group, called the control group, who is provided with daily-life oriented program. And, the group who is provided with the literary access program could have a higher score in the ability of the test items attached to the ability of language and thinking in the post-program test than the other group who is provided with daily-life oriented program.
Second, the group who is provided with the literary access program could have a higher score in the perceptive function in the post-program test than the other group who is provided with daily-life oriented program.
Third, the group who is provided with the literary access program could have a higher score in the analytic function in the post-program test than the other group who is provided with daily-life oriented program.
Fourth, the group who is provided with the literary access program could have a higher score in the integrating function in the post-program test than the other group who is provided with daily-life oriented program.
Fifth, the group who is provided with the literary access program could have a higher score in the reasoning function in the post-program test than the other group who is provided with daily-life oriented program.
For this study, 40 infants who were 5 years old and attended to two kindergartens which were selected among those located in G city. 20 infants were randomly selected among those who attended to each of the two kindergartens, were classified into two groups: test group and control group, and were provided with the literary access program.
In order to find out the change in the infant's ability of language and thinking between pre and post-program, the tool, which was originally developed by Joo young-hee(1982), was used after it was adapted and added consistent with this study.
The data collected were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 For Windows. The findings indicated that:
First, the 8 strategies which were included in the literary access program had significant effects on the improvement of the infant's ability of perceptive function.
Second, the 8 strategies which were included in the literary access program had significant effects on the improvement of the infant's ability of analytic function.
Third, the 8 strategies which were included in the literary access program had effects on the improvement of the infant's ability of integrating function.
Fourth, the 8 strategies which were included in the literary access program had effects on the improvement of the infant's ability of reasoning function.
These findings suggest that in order to help the infant's ability of language and thinking get improved they could be provided with the literary works in the field of education, especially, when they could talk each other and suggest their own views in an atmosphere of freedom, they could have the feeling that their suggestions draw attention, which leads their potentials to be emerged.
