Burn-in is one of the useful methods to eliminate the early failures in the production processes. In some cases, burn-in process can be a bottleneck process where the burn-in time needs to be reduced as much as possible.
In this thesis, the accelerated life testing is used to reduce the burn-in time economically. The optimal burn-in time is obtained by minimizing the expected total cost which consists of burn-in cost and warranty cost.
The higher stress level for burn-in process may reduce the burn-in time, whereas it may incur the higher total expected cost. On the contrary, the lower stress level for burn-in process may increase burn-in time and decrease the total expected cost. Therefore, there can be the optimal burn-in time which minimizes the total expected cost.
It is assumed that the life distribution is Weibull and the ALT model follows the Arrhenius model. The case study is given to show how the optimal burn-in time can be found. And the sensitivity analysis for the case study is also considered.
