Local festivals have developed rapidly since local autonomy was put in force in 1995, and have played a remarkable role in the development of regional economy and the improvement of regional image.
Considered as having a great potential to reinvigorate local economy without new capitals or resources, a variety of local festivals have been actively promoted by local governments. Local festivals have played a great role in the field of public relations and marketing of the regions. There fore, the success of local festivals is closely related to the economic development and the image improvement of the local entities. Great Mountains(Daegwallyeong) International Music Festival & School is one of the largest-scale classic music festivals among international music festivals being held in Korea.
Daegwallyeong has been mostly acknowledged as a site of leisure sports or film-making location. After holding Great Mountains International Music Festival, it was reborn as the city to utilize all the year round which had established the image of art festival city in addition to the image of the city to offer full compendium of sports and outdoor activities. It is coming the 6th annual festival this year, finished the 5th annual Great Mountains International Music Festival successfully.
This study examined the satisfaction and the loyalty of tourists, focused on Daegwallyeong International Music Festival, one of representative international music festivals among Korea Art Festivals, and aimed to suggest the priority in preparing for festivals in Korea. For this, this study investigated the satisfaction and the loyalty through cases of international and domestic festivals, and derived the direction and the base on focuses of local festival with applying appropriate selection attributes to the level of festival satisfaction and loyalty. The results were as follows. First was the improvement of the regional image. A great deal of tourists chose the image of the region as the first selection attribute. This shows that people tend to prefer the festivals of the regions as well if they have a good image on the regions. econd was the improvement of the regional recognition. To foster an environment in which tourists can stably visit local festivals, it is required that a number of festivals should be successfully held and it should equipped with modern facilities in the regions. With efforts like these, it will be expected to raise the perfection level of festival, and to develop and revitalize local economy as well as to reduce expenditures of marketing and public relations
