This study tried to find out the measure of the economic value of an exhibition & convention center for economic analysis of preliminary feasibility study(PFS). To achieve this purpose, the basic theory on the major concepts and characteristics of an exhibition & convention center were reviewed. The major factors related to the benefits on regional economy of an exhibition & convention industry were reviewed. Also, the basic theory and characteristics of PFS and it's tools of economic analysis were studied and fact-finding was made.
The review and study on the benefits on regional economy of an exhibition & convention industry, showed that there is no debate as to the place of trade fairs and conventions in city and national economic development. It generates local income, employment, and output, and increases the volume of economic activity occurring nationally. But all the fact-finding results of PFS on expansion of three exhibition & convention centers reveled some doubts on expansion in terms of economic efficiency.
This study discovered that PFS's economically doubtful results of expansion of 3 exhibition & convention centers were came from mis-estimating the benefit categories on the economic effects of the centers. Underestimating the benefits and overestimating the costs on expanding and operating the centers were resulted by the logical mistakes in estimating benefit categories of the centers.
Also, benefits of exhibition and convention industry related those companies who directly increase their sales through on site the events such as contractors, logistics, food & beverage, etc., were missing in estimating the benefits of the centers by the logical mistakes. And the same happening was occurred to benefits of tenants of the center who create added value in operating the centers.
