그림책 활동이 유아의 언어 및 언어창의성에 미치는 효과에 관한 메타분석 = (A) meta-analysis of effects of picture book activities upon children' language and language creativity

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 그림책 활동이 언어 및 언어창의성에 미치는 효과를 살펴보기 위해서 연구동향 파악 및 메타분석 방법으로 그 효과를 분석하였다.
연구의 목적을 수행하기 위하여 세부적 연구문제를 설정하여 연구하였다. 첫째로, 그림책 활동 중 언어 및 언어창의성 관련 논문의 연구동향을 알아보았으며, 구체적으로 언어관련 논문을 연도별, 연구방법별, 그림책 활동별, 언어영역별로 구분하여 연구동향을 분석하였으며, 언어창의성 논문을 연도별, 연구기관선정별, 연구도구별, 연구내용별로 구분하여 연구동향을 분석하였다. 둘째로, 그림책 활동이 언어 및 언어창의성에 미치는 효과에 대한 메타분석을 실시하였으며, 결과를 바탕으로 연도별, 연구기관선정별, 지역별, 활동별 연구동향을 살펴보았고, 언어 영역별(듣기, 말하기, 쓰기, 읽기) 연구동향 및 평균 효과크기를 분석하였다.
이러한 연구를 수행하기 위하여 우선 그림책 활동 방법을 통해 언어 및 언어창의성을 살펴본 논문이 처음 발표된 1989년부터 2008년 8월까지의 학위논문 및 학회지 논문의 연구동향을 우선 살펴보았다. 그리고 그 중 메타분석이 가능한 논문들을 대상으로 그 효과를 검증하여 그림책 관련 활동이 언어발달과 창의성에 미치는 효과에 대해 살펴보았다.
연구결과 그림책 활동을 통해 언어발달과 창의성을 살펴본 논문은 2000년을 전후로 꾸준히 증가하는 양상을 보였으며, 이때부터 문학에 대한 관심이 높아지고 교수 방법도 다양해짐을 알 수 있었다.
그림책 관련 활동으로는 이해 및 감상 활동의 예측하기가 가장 많이 이루어지고 있었으며 그 다음으로 창작 활동, 협동 활동 등이 이루어지고 있었고, 아직 비평적 활동은 많이 다루어지고 있지 않았다. 언어발달 영역 측면에서는 말하기를 살펴본 논문이 가장 많았으며 다음으로 읽기, 듣기 순으로 이루어지고 있었다.
그림책 관련 활동이 언어발달에 미치는 전체적인 평균 효과크기는 1.40으로 그림책관련 활동이 언어발달에 유의미한 영향을 미친다고 볼 수 있으며 메타분석 결과 언어발달의 전체적인 부분과 읽기, 쓰기, 말하기, 듣기의 하위 영역 모두에서 모두 효과가 있음이 검증되었다.
결론적으로 그림책 활동 방법은 언어발달에 있어 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었고, 언어발달을 위해 그림책은 적극적으로 활용되어질 수 있으며, 부족한 부분에 대한 연구가 더 많이 이루어져야 함을 알 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to identify effects of picture book activities upon children's language and language creativity by means of a meta-analysis of the results reported in related theses and journal papers.

To perform this study, related theses and journal papers from 1989, when a thesis on children's language and language creativity through picture book activities was first published, to August, 2008 were chosen. From the chosen theses and papers, the research trend were analyzed according to published years, research institutes, geographic areas, and practical activities. Among the chosen theses and papers, all the theses and papers to which a meta-analysis is applicable were selected, and a meta-analysis were carried out to identify the effects of picture book activities upon children's language and language creativities.

This study found that theses and journal papers on language development and language creativity through picture book activities were steadily increasing in number typically after 2000; and that ever since interest in literature was increased and teaching methods were also diversified.

Among picture book activities, guess activity including understanding and appreciating picture books was the most frequently carried on; followed by creative activity and cooperation activity; but critical activity was still not very often dealt with. In regard to language development, papers on speaking were the most in number; followed by reading and listening in order.

Mean effect size of picture book activities upon language development was found to be 1.40. Thus, picture book activities have a significant effect upon language development. According to the result of a meta-analysis, picture book activities were effective in all lower categories of reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as language development as a whole.

In conclusion, since picture book activities are effective in language development of children, it is need to use picture books more actively in order to develop children's language abilities.
