어머니됨이 유아교사의 돌봄에 주는 의미 = (The) influence of kindergarten teacher's own parenting experience on their ability to care for their students

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 유아교사들의 어머니됨 경험이 유아교육현장에서의 돌봄 실천에 어떻게 녹아있고 드러나며, 어머니됨의 경험을 통해 인간적으로, 유아교사로서 변화, 발전해 가는 모습을 질적 연구 방법을 통해 드러내고자 하였다. 이와 같은 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 연구 문제를 설정하였다.
어머니됨의 경험이 유아교사의 돌봄에 어떠한 의미를 주는가?
본 연구에서 밝혀진 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 어머니 유아교사들은 자기 아이를 떠올리거나 자녀 양육의 경험으로부터 유아의 특성을 잘 이해하고 포용할 수 있었으며 자식이 자신에게 얼마나 귀한 존재인가를 알기에 유아 하나하나에 대한 존중과 사랑의 마음으로 어머니 마음이 담긴 돌봄을 행하고 있었다. 유아에 대한 이해, 사랑, 존중, 포용이라는 어머니의 모성은 아이들을 가르치고 교육성과에 치중하기보다 유아들의 건강과, 위생, 안전에 더 많은 관심을 갖고 챙겨주고 먹여주는 모습으로 나타났으며 이러한 모성에 기초한 돌봄은 유아교사가 유아들의 성장과 발달이라는 자신의 역할을 수행하는데 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 보여진다.
둘째, 어머니 유아교사들은 정작 자신이 유아교사이지만 자기 아이를 돌보지 못함에 미안해하고 자녀의 돌봄을 요구할 수 있는 학부모의 입장임에도 불구하고 유아교육의 현실을 잘 알기에 소극적인 모습을 보였다.
셋째, 어머니 유아교사들은 어머니, 교사이기 앞서 한 사람의 인간으로 직업인으로서의 일과 엄마로서의 일이라는 과중한 노동에 정신적으로 육체적으로 많은 어려움을 느끼고 있었다. 그러나 어머니 유아교사들은 이러한 어려움 속에서도 어머니로서 자신의 모습을 형성해 나가고 교사로서의 정체성을 확립해 나가는 것으로 나타났다.
넷째, 출산이라는 크나큰 변화와 자녀 양육이라는 어렵고도 보람된 경험을 통해 어머니 유아교사들은 다른 사람을 더 잘 이해하고, 염려하고, 배려하는 모습을 보였다. 어머니 유아교사들의 이러한 타인에 대한 돌봄은 '내 아이'에 대한 보살핌에서 시작된 돌봄이 다른 유아, 성인, 식물, 동물로 확대되어가는 것으로 돌봄의 대상이 인간을 넘어서서 모든 생명체에 대한 염려, 공감, 돌봄으로 번져나가는 모습을 볼 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the influence of preschool teacher's own parenting experiences on their ability to care for their children. The study subject consisted of 5 preschool teachers with children under 3 years old, whereby the subject participated in a survey, maintained a teacher's journal, and were observed during their classes. The study attempted to answer the following question. What impact does a teacher's own parenting experience have on their ability to care for their children? The results can be summarized as follows. First, teachers who are also parents, benefiting from their own parental experiences, displayed greater ability to comprehend children, accept them and appreciate their individual qualities, and care for the children with respect and love. In addition to focusing solely on academic teaching, these parent teachers showed greater attention to children's health, hygiene, and safety. Second, parent teachers felt guilty about their efforts towards caring for their own children, and demonstrated their desire to do their best job. Due to their own job insecurity, parent teachers shied away from expressing their demands for their children's care and often had reservations about putting their kids in kindergarten. Third, while dealing with conflicting demands of their occupation and parenting responsibilities, they desired to continue serving as preschool teachers. Despite the limited resources and difficult work environment, parent teachers, through their interactions with their children, discovered their own identity, achieved a sense of accomplishment, and derived a self-esteem about their life purpose. For parent teachers, child birth and child raising experiences allowed them to share their expert perceptions and understanding of children with other parents and colleagues, and enabled them to evaluate their own professional performance and build self-confidence. This enabled parent teachers to develop both as mothers and teachers. Fourth, parent teachers, as a result of their child birth and raising experiences, showed greater propensity to understand, apprehend, and care for others. Last, maternal qualities parent teachers derived from their own parenthood allowed them to show a broader concern, empathy, and care for not only human beings but also for plants, animals, and nature in general.
