The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among enjoyment, stress, participation motivation, and self-efficacy factors in physical education class. In order to achieve this purpose, middle schools located in Gwangju and Jeonnam were selected and a questionnaire survey for enjoyment, stress, participation motivation, and self-efficacy factors was conducted in total of 381 students. Collected materials were analyzed and finally the following results were obtained.
First, the correlation among enjoyment, stress, and self-efficacy factors was analyzed. There was a significantly positive correlation and a statistically significant difference between all sub-factors of enjoyment and learning contents of stress, between game, health & physical fitness, friends & social life, emotional change, examination dissatisfaction of enjoyment and facilities and environmental conditions of stress, between all sub-factors except external motivation of participation motivation and game, health & physical fitness, friends & social life, emotional change, and skill improvement of enjoyment, and among learning contents, conflicts with friends, lack of confidence, examination dissatisfaction, facilities and environmental conditions, teaching dissatisfaction of stress, internal motivation and external motivation of participation motivation, and perceived physical ability and physical self-expression of self-efficacy.
For the correlation among enjoyment, stress, participation motivation, and self-efficacy factors, there was a significant correlation between all sub-factors of enjoyment and learning contents of stress, between game, health & physical fitness, friends & social life, emotional change, examination dissatisfaction of enjoyment and facilities and environmental conditions of stress, between all sub-factors except external motivation of participation motivation and enjoyment factors, and among stress, participation motivation and self-efficacy factors.
Second, the effects of enjoyment and stress factors on participation motivation were analyzed. As a result, enjoyment factors showed a statistically significant positive effect on perceived physical ability and physical self-expression of participation motivation and stress factors showed a statistically significant positive effect on perceived physical ability. On the other hand, stress factors did not showed a significant effect on physical self-expression of participation motivation.
Finally, the effects of enjoyment and stress factors on self-efficacy were analyzed. As a result, enjoyment factors showed a statistically significant positive effect on perceived physical ability of self-efficacy and stress factors showed a statistically significant positive effect on physical self-expression of self-efficacy. On the other hand, enjoyment factors did not showed a significant effect on physical self-expression of self-efficacy and stress factors did not showed a significant effect on perceived physical ability of self-efficacy.
