This study aimed to examine into relevancy between environmental preservation consciousness and clothing attitude & clothing-buying behavior in adolescents, and to offer basic data essential for the right clothing-life guidance and the clothing-related unit guidance in adolescents based on this.
In order to achieve all objectives, the research survey was performed by the 692 students in the 2nd and 3rd grade for 4 middle schools where are located in Gwangju City. The collected data were calculated by SPSS/PC WIN 14.0 program and evaluated using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation t-test, ANOVAs, Duncan-test, and x² Test. The results of this study are as follows.
First, adolescents were lower in environmental preservation consciousness than the common level. In the clothing attitude, it was recognized to be higher in order of aesthetics, convenience, excessive visibility, economic efficiency, coherence, and fashion. In the results of clothing-buying behavior, the need for outdoor garments was ranked first in the reason for purchasing clothes. Regarding the information source of buying clothes, the display of a shop was the largest. The most students purchased clothes on the internet shopping mall. Given buying clothes, the largest students went shopping with parents and depended on parents for the fund arrangement for the clothing. Regarding the intention of buying the environmental-mark products, the students without no intention of purchasing them were larger than the student with intention of purchasing them. In addition, the intention of buying used clothes was relatively small.
Second, as a result of examining the environmental preservation consciousness according to sociodemographic variables, there were differences in a grade, allowance and the parents' income. Thus, the environmental preservation consciousness was higher in 2nd grade students than 3rd grade students, in students with the more monthly allowance, and in students whose parents' monthly income was more than 5 million won than in other students.
As a result of examining the clothing attitude according to sociodemographic variables, the girl students were higher in excessive visibility, fashion, aesthetics, and economic efficiency than the boy students. On the other hand, the boy students pursued convenience higher than the girl students. By school year, the 2nd grade students were higher in excessive visibility, fashion, aesthetics, and economic efficiency than the 3rd grade students. By allowance, the students who received less than 30,000 won were higher especially in convenience and economic efficiency than other studnets. Besides, students in allowance more than 70,000 won were higher in excessive visibility, fashion, and aesthetics than other students. The students whose parents' income was more than 5 million won were higher in excessive visibility and fashion than other students. The students in middle class were higher in excessive visibility than other students.
As a result of testing the clothing-buying behavior according to sociodemographic variables, there was significant difference in gender (p<.001). By a grade, there were significant differences in information resource when buying clothes, a shopping place and a company to go shopping. The 2nd grade students obtained the information resource from display when they made decision to buy clothes and went to shopping with their parents. The 3rd grade students acquired the information resource through friends' advice and went to shopping with their friends. The Internet shopping was high rate in both grade students. By allowance, there were significant differences in selective factor, frequency, expenditure per once, and consuming time given buying clothes. Regardless of the amount of allowance, every student decides to purchase clothes according to design. Furthermore, the students in allowance more than 50,000 won purchased more often than the students in allowance less than 50,000 won. The students who had more allowance spent more expenditure per once. By consuming time for shopping, the students in allowance more than 70,000 won spent less than 2∼3 hours and 3∼4 hours to shopping. In the results following parents' income, there were significant differences in selective factor, frequency, and expenditure per once when purchasing clothes. Each considered clothing design the mostly for purchasing clothes. However, the students whose parents' income is less than 1.5 million won more deliberated on price compared to other students. The students whose parents' income is more than 5 million won purchased clothes once a month and once per month or every two months and spent 100,000∼200,000 won. Consequently, they spent more expenditure per once.
Third, as a result of examining the relationship between the environmental preservation consciousness and the clothing attitude, the higher environmental preservation consciousness led to the lower convenience and economic efficiency. Also, the adolescents with the higher environmental preservation consciousness level led to the higher excessive visibility and the lower convenience and economic efficiency.
Finally, as a result of examining the relationship between the environmental preservation consciousness and the clothing-buying behavior, there were significant differences in selective factor, shopping information resource, a company, frequency, a method of expenditure, intention of buying environmental-mark products, and intention of the used clothes. The students with the lower environmental preservation consciousness led to having purchased clothes due to the need of outdoor garments. The higher environmental preservation consciousness level led to having selected according to design given buying clothes, to the more students who accompanied with friends, to the more students of buying clothes once a month, and to the more purchase in cash given buying clothes. Although they recognized environmental preservation consciousness, they were not eager to buy the environmental-mark products and the used clothes.
Based on the above findings, there would be necessity of being arranged the educational contents that can perform the eco-friendly consumption behavior in the clothing attitude and the clothing-buying behavior, in order to increase adolescents' environmental preservation consciousness and to enhance the practical behavior more.
