국문 초록 (Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

'geot gatta(것 같다)' is an important grammar item to contribute to the improved communication skills of Korean learners. Its unmarkedness especially allows for its active usage in diverse speech acts, which are difficult to explain just with the conjecture function. Thus the investigator focused on the expansion of the euphemism function in the study. I first categorized discourse situations where it's expanded into euphemism according to speech acts, analyzed the morphologic and syntactic characteristics, and built a foundation to utilize it in the field of Korean education.
Since euphemism is a concept to be understood in a discourse situation and relationships with the listener instead of in the meaning category, I analyzed corpora in spoken language that well reflected it. As a result, 'geot gatta' was expanded in a very productive manner in various speech acts.
First, 'geot gatta' was presented as a grammar item with a meaning of conjecture by the teachers. The analysis results of corpora in spoken language, however, its euphemism function overwhelmed its conjecture function. The euphemism function was performed most productively in 'statement' among the various speech acts.
Secondly, the ratio of its euphemism was the highest in statement, which was followed by judgment of the listener, opposition, request, rejection, and greeting=suggestion in the order. The ratio of statement recorded the highest 45.1%.
Finally, the speaker used 'geot gatta' when expressing his or her subjective thoughts, feelings and emotions regarding his or her experiences in 'statement' during private discourse and when making arguments or expressing opinions in a euphemistic manner during public discourse led by one speaker. In particular, it's used for provision of opinions, opposition, rejection, request, and suggestion in public discourse where a group of people search for a solution like a meeting.
Based on those results, I analyzed what kind of morphological and syntactical characteristics 'geot gatta' demonstrated when performing the conjecture and euphemism function in Chapter 4.
First, it performs the conjecture function when the subject of a connecting part of speech is the speaker and a connecting part of speech is in the future tense. When the subject of a connecting part of speech is not the speaker and the future modifier ending '-eul(을)' precedes it, its uncertainty increases and thus it performs the conjecture function.
Secondly, it performs the euphemism function when it's combined with '-eun(은)' that's the present form of a state verb and the subject is the speaker. In such a case, state verbs that express the speaker's feelings or psychology are usually combined with it such as 'fine, good, better, arduous, delicious, interesting, difficult, peculiar, inevitable, and different'
And finally, among the speech acts that have huge threat of hurting the listener's honor, suggestion and request are related to the listener's acts, and 'rejection' with the speaker's acts. In those speech acts, 'geot gatta' is often combined with '-eul' that's a future modifier ending of an inflected word.
In the study, I used about 150,000 word phrases for corpora, which are small in size. Thus there are limitations with the generalization of the results and their reliability. I came across the metaphor and emphasis function that were neither conjecture nor euphemism in the analysis process of corpora and eliminated them from the study judging that they were outside the research focus. In future study, they need to cover those functions as well. It's also expected that discussions will continue as to how to present and teach 'geot gatta' in Korean education.
