Human beings live in tangible space. Also the space is the substance containing the daily experience. Presence and behaviors of human beings are actually performed and experienced in the space. Therefore, the space is defined as the substantial place which is composed of a plenty of divided spatial structures, roles and objects or where objects are essentially present. This study was on tangible space and performed by paying attention to the specific material, stone and adapting design principle of recurrence in order to research the creation of plastic space with the new concept.
Various shapes of abandoned and crashed stone are easily seen around us. They were arranged to suggest the innovative concept of space distinguished from the existing way of creating space by using recurrence, one of the basic design principles, reflecting psychological, behavioral and experimental experiences existing in the researcher's inside after being collected from the nature. Incorporation of spiritual world of the researcher's inside to various experiences of life by the concept of recurrence creates the new space figuring out the source of self-identity and expressing the process of formation or the change of spatial, time, visual and physical perception and awareness on the space in a plastic way. That is, essential meaning and standard of value are reflected in space design through this study and human beings' awareness of design is expressed in the space by using the material called stone. Therefore, this study intends to describe in which context the researcher understand the space by suggesting the design of plastic space with the new concept in the limitless space.
This study taking stones as material basically pursues the development of paradigm which contains uniqueness and distinctiveness creating the new space by adapting the design principle of recurrence and expressing the culture which is the energy of human life in the space. Therefore, the key words of this study are recurrence, space, stone lying in the nature and human beings. Various types of space made through the study seek after the space not as the output of external expression of design but as the concept of objective space which human beings can be aware of. Small stones used in study of design work are channel for individual communication and at the same time the factor of design material. Also, this study paid attention to stone's historic, traditional and artistic impact on human beings based on the investigation of its characteristics in the space.
In this study, space can be considered as the space of design creating tangible space from the empty space with nothing. It is expressed through the plastic space in which the process to find the researcher's identity is being made one by one. Space has its meaning that it begins with emptiness and is filled with something. For more detailed example, it finds its meaning when it is transformed from the intangible space such as emptiness, ownership of nothing, being natural, and leaving something behind to plastic awareness such as value finding, habit and emotion to create new type of space. This approach may be deemed as the concept of space by the subjective interpretation but it also has meaning as the place of communication with the objective value which enables people to live and talk together.
