This study is intended to be focused on how the characteristics of teenager volunteer education will influence the volunteer work, as well as on what effectiveness could be resulted from the role and instructional method of an instructor, if teenagers are educated as focused on their volunteer education, on the basis of the recognition on the importance of the teenager volunteer education and of the understanding the actual conditions of the teenager volunteer education. In this concern, it is intended to verify the effectiveness that the volunteer work would based on the characteristics of teenager volunteer education, and on the basis of such a verification, it is also intended to present a desirable direction of the volunteer work as well as an effective guiding method of the volunteer work director.
In this study, based on the characteristics of teenager volunteer education(presence of education, contents of the basic curriculum, the number and times of education, medium of education, contents of education, role of the instructor) the effectiveness on the volunteer work(satisfaction, difficulty) would has been measured in a quantitative survey study method.
The result of this study is as follows:
First, since current volunteer education of teenager is caused by mandatory force among education procedure, systematic system on the volunteer education is needed which is able to support teenager volunteer activity with emphasize the importance of volunteer activity and its value.
Second, teenager volunteer's behavior and thoughts toward volunteer changed after the education. It tells that volunteer education has to be done before volunteer activity.
Third, the characteristics of volunteer education such as presence of education, contents of education, medium of education, effectiveness of the volunteer work depending on role of instructor have a close relationship with the difficulty during volunteer activity and behavioral change after the volunteer education.
Fourth, the number and times of volunteer education do not have relationship with the satisfaction of volunteer activity, the difficulty during volunteer activity, and behavioral change after the volunteer education.
In order to have them implemented more effectively, a diversified support has to be provided.
First, it includes a plan for distinction. The volunteer learning will have to be designated as a required subject by adopting a well-organized educational system for teenager volunteer work. In other words, teenager volunteers will have to be fostered systematically through taking opportunities of volunteer work education that may be provided by adopting the volunteer work curriculum as a part of social education, or through having it included in extracurricular activities.
Second, it includes a plan for diversification. The teenager volunteer educational programs will have to be linked with such interesting and creative volunteer work that they can see, listen and participate through the development of diversified educational media utilizing video-type media, etc. rather than mainly by lectures provided, and based on such education, the specialization and diversification of the volunteer work programs will be strengthened.
Third, it includes a plan for systematization. The financial support and the R&D for the development of teenager volunteer educational programs will have to be implemented quite positively. Through providing a systematic support to volunteer-specialized educational and research organizations, such roles of a specialized educational organization as developing educational manuals, training instructors, etc. will have to be fulfilled.
Fourth, it includes a plan for collaboration. The solutions for local social problems and the community awareness will have to be shared by inducing the cyclical nature of the teenager education through linkage and collaboration with the schools and the volunteer-specialized organizations of the local societies. In other words, through providing educational programs(drug-prevention education, environment education, sex education, hand-talk education, foot-massage, balloon art, etc.) to teenagers, and through having them deployed in such diversified areas as public organizations, social welfare facilities, rehabilitation services, etc., solidarity and collaboration will have to be achieved within the local society.
Fifth, it includes a plan for internalization. The on-site, content-rich education will have to be secured by institutionalizing and settling the specialized education for both the teenager volunteers and those instructors who are responsible for volunteer work education. In the teenager volunteer education, the education for fostering internal awareness of the diversified values that are embedded in the concept of volunteer work, i.e., voluntariness, no-compensation, sustainability, public interest, etc. will have to be provided continuously in order to make the teenager volunteer work become rich in content.
In addition to the measurement of the effectiveness that the volunteer work may based on the characteristics of teenager volunteer education, the study remains to be carried out for the measurement of the presence and satisfaction of the changes resulting from the continuous observation that will be made after a certain period of time with the educated teenagers and those of no education separated.
