The study was purposed to suggest the method of improving the mentality of the radioactive isotopes users by surveying the knowledge, attitude, level of behavior of the users in the university.
The data were collected from the structured questionnaires to the 188 persons who are involved in the radioactive works at the seven universities located in metropolitan cities, small and medium sized cities from the September 16 to
December 25, 2008. The results analyzed by the SPSS WIN version 14 are as followings.
First, the score for the knowledge about the radioactivity is average 6.63 points in grade of 10. The academic career of bachelor of science is high in the points significantly than masters and Ph. Ds. The more hours of performed education for the workers in the radioactive works, the higher the score is in statistical significance (P<0.05).
Second, the score for the attitude about the radioactivity is average 46.64 points in grade of 50. The more hours of performed education for the workers in the radioactive works. the higher the score is in statistical significance (P<0.05). Third, the score for the behavior about the radioactivity is average 43.95 points in grade of 50. No statistical significance was found in the correlation of existence and non-existence of experience of the radioactivity expose and the knowledge, attitude, behavior about the radioactivity. It is statistically significant among the scores of knowledge, attitude, and behavior, the more knowledge they have, the more positive they are, the higher the score is and the more positive in attitude, the higher level of behavior.
The significant meaningful factor for the score of knowledge about the radioactivity was the 'academic career', the significant meaningful factors for the attitude about the radioactivity were the 'registry period as the workers of radioactivity', 'training hours as the workers of radioactivity, and the 'knowledge score for the radioactivity'. The significant meaningful factors for the behavioral level of the radioactivity were the 'training hours as the workers of radioactivity', 'attitude as the workers of radioactivity'.
The above result showed the correlation among the knowledge, attitude, awareness of the behavior of the involved persons in the radioactive works of the university. The higher the knowledge about the radioactivity, the more positive in attitude and aggressive in the level of behavior. The acquisition of the correct knowledge about the radioactivity during the involvement of the radioactive works in the university has the significant effect on the formation the positive attitude and desirable behavior. Accordingly, the program related with the radioactivity has to be constituted in consideration of the characteristics of the registry period and the training hours performed to the workers in radioactivity. The development of new educational program, amendment and improvement to the contents of conventional education have to be performed in parallel in order to maximize the education effect related with hazard prevention program and safety management of laboratory.
