This study is to analyse the relations among epistemological beliefs, achievement goal orientation, learning strategies and academic achievement of highschool students.
The specific research questions are summarized as follows: First, how is the correlations of epistemological beliefs to academic achievement and achievement goal orientation? Second, does achievement goal orientation have any significant mediation effect on the relation between epistemological beliefs and academic achievement? Last, does learning strategy have any significant mediation effect on the relation between epistemological beliefs and academic achievement?
This study sampled 306 highschool 1st graders(172 boys and 134 girls) from two high schools in Jeonju and Iksan city. To collect data, Schommer's Epistemological beliefs Questionaire(SEQ) modified by the researcher, achievement goal orientation Questionaire and learning strategy Questionaire were used.
The collected data are analyzed using correlations, factor analysis and structural equation model analysis.
The results are as follows:
First, students' epistemological beliefs is significantly related to achievement goal orientation, learning strategies and academic achievement. Second, the mediation effect of achievement goal orientation on the relation between epistemological beliefs and academic achievement is identified. Third, learning strategy has significant mediation effect on the relation between epistemological beliefs and academic achievement.
