The purpose of this study is to analyze the Achievement Goal Orientation(AGO) profiles of High School Students and to test the differences in Academic Self-Efficacy(ASE), Learning Strategy(LS), Academic Achievement(AA), and Implicit (Incremental) Theory of Intelligence (IITI) among AGO profiles.
In order to accomplish this purpose, this study tested the following three research hypotheses. H1) AGO profiles, respectively homogeneous but distinctive, can be derived from the four dimensions of highschool students' AGOs. H2) In the multi-AGO view, AGO profiles have significant differences in ASE, LS, AA and IITI. H3) Gender and AGO profiles' interaction and School types and AGO profiles' interaction lead to differences in the relations between AGO profiles and study-related variants(AA, ASE, LS, IITI).
The subjects of this study were 508 highschool 1st year students(346 boys and 162 girls) in Jeollabuk-Do. This study measured students' AGO, ASE, LS and IITI with AGO questionaire, ASE Inventory, LS questionaire and IITI measure. AA scores are the nationwide test results held by the 15 local education offices.
To analyze the collected data, cluster analysis, ANOVA and univariate analysis of variance were used through Amos 4.0 and SPSS 12 program.
The results of analyses could be summarized as follows: R1) Five AGO profiles, respectively homogeneous but distinctive, were derived from the four dimensions of highschool students' AGOs. R2) Significant differences in ASE, LS, AA and IITI were confirmed among the AGO profiles. R3) Gender and AGO profiles' interaction effect and school types and AGO profiles' interaction effect on the relation between AGO profile clusters and study-related variants(AA, ASE, LS, IITI) have some signigicant relationships, being not wholly confirmed.
To better understand and design the class instruction, multi-AGO view and AGO profile clustering can be a helpful way and provide more information about students and related variables.
