By analyzing the surrounding factors which are related to the adjustability of students to the school life, the disadaptability problems of students to the schools can be assessed in details and positively. So far, the suitability to school life has been evaluated by teachers in terms of objective figures such as course work accomplishment by grades and the number of absent days. Recently, however, because the perception by individuals is getting more significant than the figures, in order to investigate the accommodating ability of students, it is required to research on psychological environment in family, the overall school life, and relationship with teachers and other students, which are perceived by students themselves.
For this research, 200 questionnaires were distributed, fully collected, and analyzed, which were targeting the second year male and female students at KwangMoon High school in Kangdong-gu, Seoul as the subjects.
By these processes, it can be concluded as followed.
First of all, in terms of gender, it is shown that male students adjust to the school life better than female students do with respect to the relationship with teachers and colleagues, course works, and attitude in classes. The general school life of female students, however, is better than that of male students, and it is considered because of aspects of school regulations and ordinary life.
Second, the variation in regions depicts a better suitability aspect of students in Kangdong-gu, Seoul than in Hanam, Kyungki-do, in course works and attitude in classes. It may probably the educational condition is supported further in the center of the city than in Kyungki-do.
Third, in departments, students in science are accommodated to school lives better than students in department of liberal arts, when it comes to analyze the relationship between teachers and colleagues, course works and class attitude. Students in liberal arts, broadly, show superior adjustment to school life to students in science. It is regarded students in science are more eager for lectures in the well-intentioned competitive atmosphere and entrance to universities, practically.
Fourth, moderate or high family economy demonstrates more amicable relationship with teachers and harmonious overall school life. Neverthless, students in a lower family economy still have higher suitability in relationship between colleagues and overall school lives.
Lastly, higher grades in classes show better accommodation to school life in terms of relationship with friends, course works and class attitude, but in relationship with teachers and the whole school life, students taking lower grades were better.
It infers the relationship with fellows turns into complement rather than competition, causing to cooperative attitude of students. Even though the alienated relation with teachers seems pathetic, in the other view, it may represent the actuality of present education in Korea. So it can be interpreted as the educational flow, which has focused on grade and admission examination through the relationship with teachers at the school, is now changing into private education.
