The purpose of this study is validating the effect of optimistic improvement program for vocational school students on the improvement of optimism and personal relationship. The program used for this study was reorganized based on the contents about group counseling for personal relationship for The Penn Prevention Program In ‘The Optimistic Child(1995)’ by Seligman and Group counseling for middle and high school students(Cheon, Seoung-Moon, 2004).
The hypotheses in this study were as follows:
First, the optimistic program will improve the optimistic of the vocational high school students.
Second, the optimistic program will personal relationship of the vocational high school students.
The subjects of the study were composed of 20 students from D vocational high school in Daegu, Korea and were assigned to either experimental or control group.
The experiment group were given a total of 10 sessions of group counseling program for personal relationship, each for 50 minutes, while the control group had no treatment at all.
The scales used in this study were Seligman(1990)'s'Children's Attributional Style Questionnaire(CASQ)'and Schlein & Guerney(1971)'s'Relationship Change Scale'.
The researcher used the results of three periods(pre-test, post-test and follow up-test) and carried out ANOVA respectively with average and variance in 3 tests before and after the program. The data was treated with Korean SPSS Win(version12.0), and the statistical significance level was set at .05.
The conclusions of this study were as follows:
First, the optimistic program will improve the optimistic of the vocational high school students.
Second, the optimistic program will personal relationship of the vocational high school students.
The results of this study supported the hypotheses that optimistic improvement program would be effective the vocational school student's personal relationship.
Therefore it would be considered that the optimistic improvement program has the value on education for the vocational high school students.
