본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 현장에서 프로그래밍 교육을 효과적으로 실시하기 위해 문제중심학습 기반의 프로그래밍 수업모형을 개발하고 적용해 보는 데 있다. 프로그래밍 교육을 통해 학습자의 다양한 사고력을 신장시킬 수 있음이 밝혀졌지만, 초등학교 교육 현장에서는 여러 가지 문제점으로 인해 제대로 된 프로그래밍 교육이 실시되지 못하고 있다.
이에 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해 문제중심학습을 기반으로 하는 프로그래밍 수업모형을 개발하였다. 수업 단계는 문제인식, 문제해결 계획세우기, 탐색하기, 해결책 발견, 발표 및 평가로 5단계로 구성되었다.
개발된 수업모형을 초등학교 5학년 두 학급을 선정하여 실험 적용하였다. 실험집단에는 문제중심학습 기반의 프로그래밍 수업을 실시하고 통제집단에는 전통적인 방식으로 교사가 주도하는 프로그래밍 수업을 실시하였다. 적용 결과 실험집단의 학생들이 논리적 사고력, 문제해결력, 자기주도적 학습태도에서 향상된 결과를 나타내었다.

The purpose of this study is to develop and apply the Elementary school Programming teaching model to improve students' logical thinking ability, problem-solving ability and self-efficacy. Many former researchers demonstrated that Programming learning has a positive outcome on students' thinking abilities. However, there are numerous constraints in Elementary schools Programming teaching. In this point of view, this study attempts to overcome these issues.
The Programming teaching model which is made in this study is based on Problem-based Learning and consists of five stages. In the 'Problem recognition' stage, fundamental programming materials were introduced, and also, motives were inducted. In the 'Building a plan for problem solving' stage, the problem was thoroughly understood and roles/tasks were assigned to each member of the group. In the 'Searching' stage, attempts on various programming method were practiced with continuous debugging. In the 'Solution discovery' stage, the optimal programming outcome was chosen among the various solutions. Lastly, in the 'Presentation and evaluation' stage, each group presented their solutions and performed an evaluation on their own group and on other groups.
The subjects of this study were fifth grade students in elementary school. They were divided into a control group who learned by a traditional programming learning and an experimental group who learned by PBL based programming learning for comparison. They learned the way of basic using about Scratch through 3 sessions. Subsequently they learned Programming project in a different way through a total of 12 sessions.
To find the effectiveness of developed Programming teaching model, various types of tests were done such as logical thinking ability, problem-solving ability and self-efficacy. According to the result of a pretest before learning, the two groups were found homogeneous. In a post-test after learning, the two groups showed significant differences in all tests. Thus the hypotheses were all accepted.
In conclusion, this study suggests that the developed Programming teaching model has a positive effects on students' various thinking ability. The study is expected to be applicable as a basis for study on programming learning and constructional teaching-learning environment.
