The purpose of this study is to search for an appropriate and idealistic model of spouse communication which will help establish an intimate and healthy spouses relationship and "functional family structure" based on healthy communication between spouses. With the hypothesis that changing dysfunctional communication into functional one will solve most of the conflicts between spouses, this study employed the Nonviolence Communication Group Counselling of Rosenberg and observed the effects.
I assumed that the conflict between couples could be resolved if the method of couple communication is changed from dysfunctional communication to functional communication. A couple counseling was conducted on three couples in their 30s to 40s who reported that they were willing to resolve the conflict and had experienced similar sorts of counseling before. After the couple counseling, I introduced them to a group counseling program and gave the counseling to those who wanted it.
Nonviolence Communication Group Counseling is semi-structured group counseling designed appropriately for couples, which is based on Nonviolence Conversation Theory of Rosenberg(2003). It was conducted 3 hours per day for 4 weeks (8 sessions, 12 hours). I analyzed the process of their experiences and changes by phenomenological and physiological research methods. For this study, I collected the data from the tests of communication types, recordings all of the counseling, reports from experiences, an afternote of group counseling, and a questionnaires after the end of all the programs.

The results are as follows :

First, through Nonviolence Communication Couple Group Counseling, the couples truly expressed themselves by hearing what his/her spouse talked about and showing their polite and deep concern to each other. Furthermore, each spouse became able to express clearly what they wanted in a given situation.

Second, they got rid of their prior dysfunctional communication which consisted mostly of blaming his/her spouse. Their method of communication was transformed from conveying double messages out of low self-esteem into integrating their speech and action by recognizing the desires of himself/herself and his/her spouse.
Third, thanks to the progress of the communication skills to each other through the Couple Group Counseling, based on Nonviolence Communication, the relationships of the couples became more intimate. Through this process, the sources of marital conflicts which at first prompted them to visit the counsellor, that is, violence and verbal abuse of the husbands, problems with their children, problems with in-laws and relatives, were resolved to a large extent.
