The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effects of applying a movement program with special signs in early childhood education, particularly with respect to the seven areas of children's multiple intelligence: musical, bodily-kinesthetic, linguistic, spatial-visual, logical-mathematical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal intelligence.
To achieve the goal of this study, first, a movement program that applies signs based on Laban Movement Education and Motif Writing was developed. Then, without gender distinction, children from four to five years old were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was examined with the movement program.
The movement program using Motif Writing Signs was applied to the nine people in experimental group while the other twenty seven people in the control group, in classes of nine, took their regular classes consisting of: an intelligence class(English), a body-activity class(Ballet) and a sports-activity class(Swimming).
Shearer's Multiple Intelligence Examination Paper, featuring seventy to ninety percent reliability, was used as a measurement tool to obtain the children's multiple intelligences.
Two-way ANOVA with RM was used to analyze the data collected, after independent t-testing differences between pre and post-inspection of the experimental and control groups. The results were as follows:
First, the result of comparative before-after analysis of the movement program applying Motif Writing Signs showed significant differences in all the multiple intelligences of children. That is to say, the result indicates that the program followed by the experimental group helps to improve multiple intelligences significantly. Second, the result of two-way ANOVA with RM on experimental and control groups showed significant differences in linguistic, interpersonal, musical and logical intelligences. Spatial intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence and interpersonal intelligence were not different significantly, but the results after the experiment were still higher.
The results from the research are evidence that developing early childhood education that employs movement program using signs and applying the program in a real educational setting is certain to improve children's multiple intelligences.
Consequently, continued efforts in the study of early childhood movement education which has its root in the Laban and Motif Theory will lead to the study of improved multiple intelligence for adults. This study will help many people to find a job based on what they like and what their talent is, and eventually will play an important role for people to reach a higher level of happiness.
