The purpose of this study is to analyze the writing materials of the second graders' five English textbooks to suggest an appropriate proposal for the effective learning of writing. The writing activities in the textbooks were analyzed with three writing standards of the 7th national curriculum, the proportion of four integrative skills and the guidance of writing activities. Also, the sixty eight second graders and six English teachers responded a questionnaire about writing activity materials in the above mentioned textbooks. The results of this study are as follows:First, for the 7th national curriculum, most of writing activity materials in the textbooks satisfy the standards, but some activities are biased to certain areas. They need to be more balanced.Second, most writing activities of the textbooks involve other skills like listening, speaking and reading. However, it is the combined activities of writing and reading that are commonly contained in textbooks.Third, as for the writing guidance of writing activities, writing material activities in most textbooks are focused on the controlled writing including grammatical transformation task, vocabulary task, ordering task, short- answer and sentence completion tasks. Finally, the questionnaire results show that more than a half students consider learning writing skill as an important part, but they do not have much interest in learning it through the textbooks. They hope writing activities in the textbooks involve their interests and topics of daily life.Based on the above findings, this study suggests the followings:First, writing activities should balance the proportion of controlled writing, guided writing and free writing.Second, as a facilitator, teacher should guide students to learn the process of writing.Third, supplementary writing activity materials should be prepared according to the students' various ability to write. Finally, it is necessary that supplementary writing activity materials involve other speaking and listening materials in addition to reading activities.
