The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of mother's psychological well-being and young children's emotional expressivity on children's social competence , and provide teachers and parents with practical resource that allow them to use it in the fields of early childhood education, educational programs for parents, and counseling.
The subjects of this study were 324 mothers whose children were from 3 to 5 years old from 6 public kindergartens in Cheongju and Cheongwon.
Data were analyzed by t-test, F-test with Tukey post-hoc test, Pearson product-moment correlation, hierarchical regression using SPSS Win Program.

The results of the study were as follows.
Firstly, according to the general background, there was a significant difference in mothers' psychological well-being. The participants who are below 36 years old and have college graduates or the above showed high scores in self acceptance and autonomy, and the participants who are above 37 years old and have high school graduates or the below revealed little bit high scores in the purpose to their lives.
Secondly, according to the general background, there was a meaningful difference in young children's emotional expressivity. The girls whose mother has college graduates or the above gave good marks in self-appraisal and showed positive emotionality. The young children whose mother has high school graduates or the below were good at controlling their acts.
Thirdly, according to the general background, there was a significant difference in young children's social competence. Young girls showed more competent and self-possessed than boys. The young children who have a working mother showed more frequent affection to their mother and pro-sociality. The young children whose mothers go to the catholic church and whose parents earn more than 4 million won in a month showed high disturbance.
Fourthly, autonomy and environmental mastery which are the sub-factors of mothers' psychological well-being have an effect on self-appraisal, emotionality, and self-decision which are the sub-factors of emotional expressivity. The young children who has high environmental mastery and whose mother is autonomic express themselves more verbally. The better self-appraisal and cooperation they show, the higher social competence they have.
Fifthly, the factors that make an effect on young children's disturbance were mother' autonomy, purpose to their lives, young children's self-appraisal, inhibitory control, emotionality, and self-decision. The young children who give good marks in self-appraisal, control their need appropriately, concentrate on their attention well, are good boys and girls, cooperate together, and whose mother is autonomic and has clear purpose to her life showed passive behaviors.
Sixthly, the factor that make an effect on young children's instability were mothers' autonomy, the purpose to their lives, and young children's inhibitory control. The young children who has better ability in inhibitory control and whose mother is autonomic and has clear purpose to her life showed low instability.
Seventhly, the young children's leadership had a significant impact on self-appraisal only. The better they express themselves verbally and appraise themselves, the higher leadership they showed.
Lastly, autonomy, the purpose to one's life, individual development, and self-appraisal had effects on pro-sociality. The young children who give a high scores in self-appraisal and express themselves more verbally and whose mother is autonomic, has clear purpose to her life, has interest in her development, and tries to achieve her goals showed high pro-sociality.
