The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-acceptance and subjective-wellbeing of elementary school students.
In order to achieve this purpose of study, the research questions were as follows:
First, are there gender differences in self-acceptance of elementary school students?
Second, are there gender differences in subjective-wellbeing of elementary school students?
Third, are there any relationships between self-acceptance and subjective-wellbeing of elementary school students?
In order to solve this study questions, 155 elementary school students(88 boys, 67 girls) were selected. The measurement instrument used for measuring self-acceptance in this study was "Self-Acceptance Scale" devised by Philipse(1951), revised and supplemented by Park Jong Kweon(1986). And the measurement instruments used for measuring the level of subjective-wellbeing in this study was "Happiness Inventory for Children" devised by Lee Jeong Hwa(2005). SPSS program was used to discover the relationships between self-acceptance and subjective-wellbeing. The data were analyed by t-test.
The results of this study were as follows;
First, there were no significant gender differences in the level of self-acceptance.
Second, there were no significant gender differences in the level of subjective-wellbeing.
Third, there were significant relationships between self-acceptance and subjective-wellbeing.
When considering these results, in general, higher level children of self-acceptance showed high subjective-wellbeing. So children have to receive positive environment for increasing their self-acceptance from their parents and teachers.
