The purpose of this study was to find the effect of an consultation applied with group art therapy on self-expression and peer relation of the withdrawn children. In order to verify the effect of art therapy, the following hypothesis are made.
Hypothesis 1 : group art therapy may improve the self-expression of the withdrawn children.
Hypothesis 2 : group art therapy may improve peer relation of the withdrawn children.
In order to achieve the purpose of this study, selected twelve withdrawn children out of the 1st grade children of M elementary school in Busan. Six students were assigned to the experiment group, another six students were assigned to the restricted group, and applied art therapy program to them.
In order to know an effect of the consultation, implemented the pre-test and pro-test in K-CBL, withdrawn activity test, self-expression test paper, peer relation, technical test and teacher's observation and compare before and after the program of observation record and school life.
The summarized results of this study are as followings.
First, group art therapy have an effective effect on an improvement in self-expression of the withdrawn children. There were the children who show consistent improvement in each of scope and there were outstanding children in specific scope, but their self-expression was improved.
Second, the withdrawn degree of the withdrawn children was decreased through group art therapy and an interaction was increased, as a result, peer relation was improved.
On the basis of the study, it is expected that the better results will be produced if the cross age interaction program is introduced to entire grade by enabling that withdrawn children in high grade become the partner with withdrawn children in low grade.
