All artistic projects take in a conception phase in which the artist thinks to express his or her maturity, and all works of art include an operational phase in which the artist performs admirable, and furthermore masterful skills. That is to say, action and work are prerequisite to all creation.
Special materialization with materials which is the foundation of artistic activities reveals the cultural surface of the society. Moreover, one of the most important missions of art is to inspire the in.depth structure.
Over a period of time, we have learned that contemporary art has great influence on our lives, and fiber art has gained its meaning by assuming the texture, being introduced as an artistic material, and additionally being used in various new formative arts with its attractive harmony of “tactual and visual senses.”
As to the postmodern art, the goal of this research was to create a new form of art using various fiber materials rather than to cling to invent a certain style. Through making art pieces using needlework which is directly connected to women’s daily life, I have found a meaning in the artistic territory. I have created the work of art which utilizes the properties of materials and abstractly expresses “the sense of mind and the narrative of religious life” that I have experienced through union with God in the art making process. I have reached the following results through the research.
First, “the sense of mind” can be realized through the attractive harmony of “tactual and visual senses” which emerges through various images in the pictorial surface and the physical properties of materials used to express them.
Secondly, the sewn fabric was scratched with the metal brush and thus worn fluffy creating great tactile sensation. The revealed impression, delicacy of thread drawing and its warmness resulted from this process can bring “healing wounds” and “warm sense of mind” to me and others.
Thirdly, “affection” was the main subject in Edwards’ thoughts to deliver the love of God to people. To say it again, it is affection that expands the abundant divinity and reproduces it. Emotions change first in the occasion of remorse, and such “image of affection” in my work can be a missionary to deliver the love and shalom of God to wounded spirits who have not experienced the grace of God.
Fourthly, through the aesthetic experience which I had in sewing that is part of women’s everyday life, it was the process of comforting and regaining myself, repeatedly running over a certain memory and thus healing my wound and leading me to peace.
Fifthly, the work was completed through the senses felt in the hand as well as in the eye. It was meditation and prayer with visual and tactile gentleness breathing with breath and wholly concentrating, and I realized it was the first step to reflect myself.
In this thesis, by summarizing the topic and the contents of the work I have done so far and doing research on the technical side in detail, I have realized my humble work could be better and subsequently would like to work further to create a masterwork in the future.
