This study investigated relationship among service quality, intention to exercise adherence and sociality for youth sports clubs. The purpose of this study was to provide basic information in order to develop effective strategies for development of sports clubs.
The data were collected using 450 elementary school students who participated in sports clubs as a convenience sample. Actual data analysis included 386 students who responded to the questionnaire completely.
The present research was based on survey data. The questionnaire included service quality(Huh, 1997; Bang, 2003), The intention to exercise adherence(Jang, 2005) and sociality(Jeong, 1971; Han, 1998). Cronbach's α and confirmatory factor analysis were used to examine the validity, reliability of the scale and the model fit.
In data analysis, descriptive analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, multicollinearity, multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS Win ver. 14.0. Path analysis was conducted using LISREL 8.3.
The conclusions are as follows.
Firstly, male students had higher service quality and the intention to exercise adherence than female students Therefore new programs should be developed in order to heighten girls' participating satisfaction.
Secondly, service quality by grade were affected by program and instructors. Programs considering individual development stage should be developed. Competent professionals should be trained. And efforts are needed to induce children to participate in sports activities.
Thirdly, main facilities and programs affect the intention to exercise adherence. This result indicates that high quality sports club facilities or program can affect children's willingness to participate in sports activities positively. Support is needed to activate the sports clubs in order to induce children to participate in sports activities constantly.
Fourthly, facilities and program affect sociality. Therefore main facilities and program should be developed systematically.
Fifthly, The intention to exercise adherence has positive effect on sociality. Therefore efforts are needed in order to induce children to participate in sports activities.
Sixthly, in terms of causal relationship among service quality, The intention to exercise adherence and sociality, service quality has significant effects on the intention to exercise adherence and sociality. But The intention to exercise adherence has non-significant effect on sociality. Continuous and various approaches are needed for further research in order to examine relationship between the intention to exercise adherence and sociality.
In conclusion, continuous physical activities are needed without distinction of sex, age and social class. Expansion and remodeling of main facilities, various programs by levels are required for effective physical activities. In addition, with systematical training programs for professionals, an opportunity for setting a foundation to consolidate school physical education, elite sports, and sports for all can be made.
