    The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the effect of project based learning which is applied from one of talent education models, Advanced 3step Learning model developed by Renzulli in order to find the way to improve problem solving ability and attitude or interesting for science subject of middle school students and propose the use of the model to science class of middle school. For the study, 166 first grade students from 4 classes of middle school in Gyeonggido were selected and then divided into control group of 81 students in 2 classes and experimental group of 85 students in 2 classes. And control group had traditional learning and experimental group had project based learning and then they were tested and analyzed for problem solving ability at the beginning and end of the test period. Shortly after having project based learning, experimental group were asked to answer the questionnaire about project based learning and 20 students of the group had interviews.
    The feature of project based learning in this study is that teachers could conduct their own projects which is 'science project learning design and implementation' by advanced 3step Learning model of Renzulli and the final result of those projects is proposed in the way to develop the science project learning of students. In the research step (first step of the project), teachers analyze, select and modulate the science education subjects in knowledge and ability acquisition step (second step of the project), they arrange guiding knowledge and ability required in project based learning for class and finally, in project implementation step (third step), they applied the project based learning to their students. SWOT analysis, subject research, logic tree and fishbone diagram etc are used for problem solving during science project learning and these are used in various fields such as business, education and others. The developed project learning is designed in a way of that 2 projects are completed in 33 processes for 11 weeks and all students participated in the project learning identify, design and work on the subject of project by team and completed the final product based on the project program.
    As a result of the project based learning, it is found that students have significant interest in the use of various problem solving tools and could embody the process of research and solving the problem of the project.
    In pretest and posttest of problem solving ability, there was significant difference between experimental group and control group. In posttest, the average value of experimental group was 17.49point which is significantly higher than that of control group. Furthermore, the average in research design, research process and attitude and completion of product were significantly higher in experimental group than control group.
    In the questionnaire, 58.8% of 85 students reported that they acquired something from the project based learning and 61.2%reported that they became favorable to science class than before. This means that students have positive recognition toward the project based learning. 74.1% of all students reported that they could increase their knowledge through science project learning and 88.2% reported that they have more interest in science. This means that they have positive recognition toward cognitive and defining side of the learning. 'Process to find information'(72.8%), 'coaching instruction process of teacher'(50.6%) and 'discussion process with classmates'(31.8%) were increased part interest for science and it is found that self solving process and coaching instruction had positive effect to the interest of students.
    In conclusion, the result of this study suggests that the problem solving ability of students participated in project based learning during science class has improved. Project based learning in normal science class of middle school is the way of instruction and learning so that students identify the problem and complete the process of problem solving by themselves. This kind of science project program is very available to be used easily and interestingly in normal science class and also properly modulated for various kinds of class and student. It is important to note that the plan of project based instruction and learning should be developed more for our science education reality so that our students could enhance their problem solving ability.

    이 연구에서 설계된 프로젝트 학습의 특징은 교사가 Renzulli의 심화학습 3단계 모형에 따라 ‘과학 프로젝트 수업 설계 및 실행’이라는 자신의 프로젝트를 진행하면서 그 최종산출물로서 학생들의 과학 프로젝트 수업을 진행하는 방식으로 고안되었다는 점이다. 교사는 프로젝트 1단계 탐색 단계에서 과학 교육과정을 분석하여 수업을 진행할 단원을 선정하여 모듈화 하였다. 2단계 지식·기능 습득 단계에서는 프로젝트 수업에 필요한 코칭 지식과 기능을 사전 지식으로 탐색하여 수업을 설계하였다. 마지막 3단계 프로젝트 수행 단계에서는 개발한 프로젝트 수업을 학생들에게 적용하였다. 과학 프로젝트 수업이 진행되는 동안 사용된 문제 해결 도구는 스왓 분석, 주제망에 의한 주제 탐색, 로직 트리, 피시본 다이어그램 등으로 기업 및 교육 기관 등 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있는 것이다. 개발된 프로젝트 수업은 11주 동안 총 33차시 분으로, 총 2개의 프로젝트를 수행하는 것으로 설계되었다. 프로젝트 학습에 참여한 학생들은 프로젝트 프로그램에 따라 팀별로 프로젝트 주제를 찾아서 과제를 수행하여 최종 결과물을 완성하였다.
    프로젝트 수업을 적용한 결과 학생들은 다양한 문제해결 도구의 활용을 흥미 있게 생각하였으며 이를 통해 프로젝트의 주제를 찾고 문제를 탐색하며 해결해 나가는 과정을 구체화 할 수 있었다.
    프로젝트 수업의 전후에 실시된 문제해결력에 대한 사전·사후 검사 결과 실험집단과 통제집단의 수업 처치에 따른 문제해결력에는 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 학생들의 사전 능력을 통제한 실험집단의 사후 검사 교정 평균은 통제 집단의 교정 평균보다 17.49점 높은 것으로 나타났으며 그 결과는 유의미한 차이를 나타내었다. 또한 문제해결능력 검사의 하위 항목인 탐구 설계, 탐구 과정 및 태도, 산출물 영역 모두에서도 실험집단의 평균이 높게 나타났으며 그 결과는 유의미한 차이를 나타내었다.
    실험집단을 대상으로 실시된 프로젝트 수업 및 과학에 대한 설문조사 결과 전체 85명의 학생 중 50명(58.8%)의 학생이 수업을 통해 얻은 것이 있다고 응답하였으며 52명(61.2%)의 학생이 과거에 비해 과학수업이 좋아졌다고 응답하여 프로젝트 수업에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 63명(74.1%)의 학생이 과학 프로젝트 수업을 통해 지식이 향상되었다고 응답하였으며 75명(88.2%)의 학생이 과학에 대한 흥미가 높아졌다고 응답하여 인지적 측면과 정의적 측면 모두에서 긍정적인 인식을 나타내었다. 과학에 대한 흥미를 높인 영역으로는 ‘정보를 찾는 과정’(61명, 72.8%), ‘교사의 코칭 안내지도 과정’(43명, 50.6%), ‘친구들과 토론하는 과정’(27명, 31.8%)의 순으로 스스로 답을 찾는 과정과 교사의 코칭 안내가 학생들의 흥미에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
    이상의 연구 결과를 보면, 프로젝트 프로그램을 적용한 과학수업은 학생들의 과학 문제해결력을 향상시키고 과학에 대한 태도와 흥미에도 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이러한 프로젝트 프로그램은 과학수업 시간에 비교적 쉽게 활용할 수 있으며, 모듈 형태로 개발되었기 때문에 수업 진도나 학생들의 수준에 따라 새롭게 선택·조합하여 지도할 수 있다. 그러므로 우리나라 과학교육 현실에 맞는 프로젝트 교수 학습이 향후 계속 진행된다면 학생들의 과학 문제해결력과 과학에 대한 태도 및 흥미를 변화시키는데 효과가 있을 것으로 판단된다.
