When you see the report "Competitive Cities in the Global Economy" in OECD, 2006, they evaluated the city as three levels that are world star, national star and a transition stage among twenty six member nations, and Seoul was classified as a transition stage that is the lowest position. They alerted that if these cities can not raise the global competitiveness, they would have dramatically fallen away. So, estimation about the nation and cities of Korea is not so good as comparing an developed country. And the nations of Southeast Asia that lately developed it also follow up the our country.
In this situations, for the device that can elevate the competitiveness of city, The Theory of 'The Creative City' appear. And it come into the spotlight for solving these problems.
The purpose of this paper is that analyze how the growth of cities in Southeast Asia get attained and what the reason for growth is, based on The Theory of 'The Creative City' that is new paradigm. Following methods are used for showing the growth of cities according to the number of the people that are involved in the production and services and for explaining the situations by measuring this growth as using of variables of characteristics about the creative cities. There are three analyses.
The first, we analyze the process of the city growth at metropolis in Southeast Asia for latest ten years by using the basic statistics. The result is that, based on the growth of the production and services that is set in this paper, our cities don't come up with the advanced metropolis of Japanese, but we are in more higher level than the cities in Southeast Asia. However, in case of Seoul, it is classified as the highest group with Shanghai, Tokyo and etc in every variables
The second is that use the multiple regression analysis about the factors in the growth of industry that lead the city growth in 2000 and 2005. They are divided the three analyses. At first, when we did the multiple regression analysis, the effective variables for the industry growth was Technology variable and Tolerance variable. As we observe the previous basic statistics, all metropolis in Japan are located in a high rank for every variables. So, we thought that there exist the distortion and in second analysis, we did again the multiple regression analysis except for the cities in Japan. The result was that Technology variable, Tolerance variable, Safety variable and Amenity variable have effectiveness. We know that Safety variable and Amenity variable are not largely effective to the industry growth in the developed country.
The third analysis shows that Talent variable and Amenity variable are factors of the growth by observing the rate of growth between 2000 and 2005. We confirm that the pool of high rank man that is main factor in local economy of cities also appeared in the growth of Southeast Asia.
While the researches published by National institutions or a research institutions are only for saving the data used in political discussion about the city growth, it was mean in that we tried to analyze the city growth through many different eyes by using the basic statistics and the multiple regression analysis. However, we had a heavy difficulty in collecting the data of cities in each nation, and when we was in process for setting the variables, there exist the limitations due to insufficient data.
