Hypothesis 2-4) Does the ambiguous type of communication have a positive correlation with the teenagers‘ depression and anxiety?
The study has executed through male female high school students in 4 academic high schools located in the downtown of Daegu. Total 198 copies of questionnaires for this survey have been distributed to high school students in the areas of Buk-Gu, Jung-Gu, Suseong-Gu, Jung-Gu and Seo-Gu. 194 material have been finally investigated except inconsistent 4 materials like insufficient answers, and the collected material have been handled statistically using Hangeul 12.0 program by frequency, percentage, analysis of correlation and linear regression analysis.
I could reach a conclusion as a result of the study as follows. Also I would like to make a conclusion generalizing such results of the study.
First, as a result of the analysis for the relationship between the communication of parents and high school students and self-esteem, the open communication of parents and children and the self-esteem as a whole has shown relatively high relations ratio with 0.547 point, which means the more open communication between parents and children is, the higher the self esteem is. In other words, the more communication between parents and children becomes open, the higher family-oriented, general, school and social self esteem gets. We need to try to improve the relationship between parents and children, which might lead them to defiance through fine conversation skill, counseling or the development of programs that can help communication, Also through open communication between parents and children, teenagers‘ learn how to adapt themselves to their society and can participate in it as constituents, and the constituents have the power to form a group and to function. Hence, we can see that communication between parents and children influences teenagers’ good character and the function of whole family. Therefore, the family relationship for their youth, especially communication between parents and children is essential in the family, and there needs to be open communication in order to narrow the gap of the generation and help them respect and understand each other.
As sincere communication between parents and children is realized through such efforts and behaviors, a consensus and the area of understanding can be broaden. For this, parents need to try to listen carefully to what their children want to say and teenagers‘ also need to be active in expressing their emotion and feelings to their parents freely. We will probably seek a positive solution and the development of the relations as long as they approach each other with love and open their minds.
Second, in the relationship between parents and high school students, we could see that the more communication from the perspective of the students is open not closed, the less students are depressed. The relationship between parents and children is the most basic and permanent and takes the most significant role in the development of human growth.
However, when the communication, which is a way to create and maintain the relationship between parents and children, is cut or lacks so that it creates the reverse function, it may influence the children's psychological and physical parts in many ways. Thus, we should try our best to develop detailed programs and give opportunities regarding efficient communication.
Third, for the influence of the communication between parents and high school students on teenagers‘ maladjustment, it has been proved that when the communication is open and less closed and negative, the degree of depression is lower. The more communication from the perspective of the students is open not closed, the lower the feeling of uneasiness, tension, worry and anxiety is. In other words, the more efficient the communication between parents and children is, the higher self-esteem of teenagers’ respect and the lower the depression is. It has been said that the lack of the time for communication among family, the cutting of communication and conversation of the reverse function make teenagers‘ experience low self-esteem, the lack of feeling connection, a sense of frustration and alienation and would even become the reason for the problematic behavior or misbehavior. (Kim Jeong-Hee 1987, Bang Moon-Hee 1991). Therefore, we need to establish not only the guide for each teenager but also a healthy family relationship.
