본 연구는 2000년부터 2008년 10월까지 발간된 스토리텔링 방식의 청소년용 학습 도서를 원전으로 하여 출판 연도별 발간 현황과 학습 주제별 발간 현황을 검토해 보았다. 이를 바탕으로 실제 사용된 스토리텔링 유형을 분류, 분석하고 그 학습적 효과를 논하였다.
청소년용 학습 도서는 해를 거듭할수록 시리즈물이 증가하고 전문 작가들이 등장하였으며, 스토리텔링 방식과 학습 주제가 다양해졌다.
다양한 학습적 요구를 담아내는 방식으로써 스토리텔링 유형을 분류한 결과 스토리텔링 유형은 ‘모험에서 살아남기’ ‘판타지 세계로 들어가기’ ‘가상현실 체험하기’ ‘고전에서 빌려오기’ ‘사실과 허구의 만남-팩션’ 다섯 가지로 분류되었다.
스토리텔링은 이야기를 통해 학습 내용을 재미있게 전달함으로써 학습 동기를 이끌어내고, 학습에 대해 긍정적인 자세를 갖게 해준다. 기억을 촉진시키며 유의미한 맥락에서 학습하는데 도움을 준다. 상상력과 창의성을 자극하며 언어 발달에도 긍정적인 영향을 준다.
이러한 교육적 효과로 인해 스토리텔링은 청소년용 학습 도서에서 꾸준히 그 영역을 확장해 오고 있으며, 좀 더 효율적인 전달을 위해 끊임없는 변신을 꾀하고 있다. 하지만 스토리텔링의 활약에 비해 지금까지 연구 성과는 미약한 편이다. 청소년용 학습도서가 거듭나기 위해서는 스토리텔링 창작방법론을 구축함과 동시에 학계 간 통합적 연구가 필요하다. 통합적 연구를 지원하는 측면에서, 학습 도서에서 스토리텔링의 역할과 창작 방법을 논할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다는 데 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

This study is to review books for adolescence that use the storytelling method and focus on the books published between 2000 and 2008. The books are analyzed according to the type of storytelling and thief effect on students. Books for adolescence in this format have become popular and there has been an increase in the number of books published and authors.
By classifying the type of story, several main categories can be seen : adventure, fantasy, virtual reality, classics, joining fact and fiction. The use of the storytelling method increases motivation to learn and help students maintain interest. In addition, storytelling seems to improve memory and is helpful learnning. Furthermore, it may stimulate creativity, imagination and language skills.
Due to the above benefits, the use of storytelling as a language development skill has been extended particularly with adolescence. Considering the advantages of using storytelling for adolescence, there has not been much study. This study recommends that the storytelling method become more widely used and that further study of its effectiveness be made. The purpose of this study is to identify the increased rule of storytelling in books for adolescence and to encourage a greater use and study of this method.
