Good designs represent the image of the time for the society, culture and lifestyle which we live or sometimes make it possible to forecast the future. The clue to the creation of good designs lies with a 'good concept' which reads out the minds of the people who use them. As the paradigm in the industry design continues to shift to consumer-centeredness and service-centeredness in its big framework, designers are requested to predict the flow of the times and the demand of users and specifically create the output which can be tangibly seen by reflecting such prediction and demand. In order to do so, they are constantly pressured to reveal an instinctively perception ability as well as play a role for the systematically trained design study and a trendy prediction. for trendy. Contrary to the past, today a number of designers come out and suggesting a better concept is increasingly difficult. Thus, the importance of the prior information necessary for the initial stage in the design process is becoming gradually larger.
Good concepts can be acquired from good information. Good information contains an instinct for what the current time requires and consumers prefer Trendy information is one such example. Therefore, a method which analyzes a trend in a systematic and objective fashion and makes use of the trend as the information for obtaining a good design concept is required. In the study, I explore into how to investigate a trend in order to predict the needs of consumers and induce the design concept fitting such needs as the information necessary for consumers, suggesting 5 stages in the course.
In Chapter 1, Introduction, I described the background, purpose and necessity for the study.
As a theoretical exploration, Chapter 2 spelled out the importance for the design concept and defined the concept and necessity of the trend information.
In Chapter 3, I explored into the cases of the 4 investigation methods for the trend which corresponds to Nature Inquiry and suggested the result of analyzing the cases comprehensively.
In Chapter 4, I compared, analyzed and synthesized on the basis of the content of Chapter 3 from the designer's perspective and suggested 5 methods for forecasting the trend to deduce a design concept.
In Chapter 5, the suggestion for the study, I conducted to draw a design concept for a future mobile for the early-adapters in their late teens - early 20s and offered a concept for it, suggesting a limit for the study and the future tasks.
Each of the 5 stages which are finally obtained in the study has the following characteristic:
First, the target of the theme and concept which seek out framing for forecasting a trend should be clearly identified and the scope and frequency for preciting the trend should be specified.
Second, the macro- and micro-environmental change around a theme should be observed. Also, the noticeably new phenomena in the course of a change in society, culture, economics and technology should be captured.
Third, an innovative idea which the pieces of information which were unlikely to have nothing to do with those changes each other in reviewing the interrelationship in other fields create is pretty much useful for deducing an idea concept.
Fourth, more than anything else, the key drive engine for the trend which brings about a change and newness more should be identified and set up as an implicating concept, deducing it as a keyword.
Fifth, the information already collected should be constructed as a story for design and visualized as an image, image information which can be helpful for the thought of the designers.
The study has an implication for suggesting a method for deducing a design concept by establishing a process for predicting a trend rather than a result of analyzing the trend and accessing closer to consumers.
