초등학교 아동이 지각한 어머니의 양육태도와 공감능력의 관계

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초등학교 아동을 대상으로 아동이 지각한 어머니의 양육태도와 공감능력의 관계를 분석하여, 어머니의 양육태도와 공감능력간의 관계는 배경변수(성별, 학년)에 따라 어떠한 차이가 있으며, 양육태도와 공감능력은 어떠한 관계가 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다.
본 연구는 대전시 소재 3개 초등학교 4학년, 6학년 아동 557명을 대상으로 하였다. 그리고 아동이 지각하는 어머니의 양육태도를 측정하기 위해 정원식(1984)의 가정환경 진단 검사지의 가정의 심리적 과정을 이동영(1997)이 번안한 것을 일부 수정해서 사용하였다. 아동의 공감능력을 측정하기 위해, Davis(1980)의 IRI(조망 취하기, 상상하기, 공감적 관심)검사와 Bryant(1982)의 공감적 각성검사를 박성희(1997)가 번안한 질문지를 수정·보완하여 사용하였다.
연구결과를 분석하기 위해, SPSS/WIN(version 14.0)을 사용하였으며, 아동이 지각한 어머니의 양육태도와 공감능력의 관계와 아동이 지각한 어머니의 양육태도가 공감능력을 어느 정도 설명하는지 알아보기 위하여 이원분산분석(two-way ANOVA)을 하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 어머니의 양육태도와 공감능력은 성별에 따라 의미 있는 관계가 있었다. 구체적으로 살펴보면, 양육태도가 성취, 친애, 자율형일 때 여학생이 남학생보다 공감능력인 조망취하기, 상상하기, 공감적 각성이 높았다. 즉 어머니의 양육태도를 아동이 성취, 친애, 자율형으로 지각할수록 공감능력이 높았고 비성취, 거부, 타율형으로 지각할수록 공감능력이 낮다고 볼 수 있다. 한편, 성별에 따른 차이를 알아보았을 때, 공감능력의 하위영역인 조망취하기, 상상하기, 공감적 각성에서 여학생이 남학생보다 더 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 어머니의 양육태도와 공감능력은 학년에 따라 의미 있는 관계가 다소 있기는 했으나 대부분의 영역에서 의미 있는 상관을 나타내지 않았다. 조망취하기에서는 4학년이 6학년에 비해 높게 나타났으나, 상상하기의 일부에서는 6학년이 4학년에 비해 더 높게 나타났다. 양육태도의 유형과 공감능력간의 관계에서도 성취, 개방, 친애, 자율형 양육태도와 학년은 아동의 공감능력에 상호작용효과가 없었다.
셋째, 양육태도의 하위영역은 공감능력의 하위영역과 의미 있는 관계가 있었다. 어머니의 긍정적인 양육태도가 공감능력의 하위영역 및 전체 공감능력에 더 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 즉 폐쇄형을 제외하고 성취형·친애형·자율형의 양육태도가 공감능력과 의미 있는 관계를 나타내는 것으로 보아, 초등학교 아동이 지각한 어머니의 양육태도는 아동의 공감능력을 설명하는 의미 있는 변인이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 아동의 공감능력을 높여주기 위해서는 가정에서 어머니가 성취적, 친애적, 자율적으로 자녀를 양육해야 함을 시사하고 있다. 그리고 본 연구결과는 아동의 공감능력 발달에 요구되는 어머니의 양육태도를 알아보는 자료로도 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main concerns of this study are the relationship between the mother's child-rearing attitudes perceived by elementary school children and their empathic ability. This study analyzed the relationship between the mother's child-rearing attitudes perceived by elementary school children and their empathic ability. The purpose of this study was to examine which relationship between background variable(sex, grade) and the mother's child-rearing attitudes perceived by elementary school children have and what about the explanatory power between sub-variables.
The subjects of this study comprise 557 children of the 4th grade and the 6th grade for three elementary schools which are located in Daejeon. As for a measurement tool that was used for this study, the questionary revised partially 'The Family Psychological Process' in the Family Environment Inventory by Jeong, Won Shik(1984) translated by Lee, Dong Young(1997) to measure children's empathic ability. Besides, in order to measure children's empathic ability, I revised the questionary which was translated IRI Scale(perspective-taking, fantasy, empathic concern) of Davis(1980) and empathic awakening scale of Bryant(1982) by Park, Sung Hee(1997).
The statistical processing was analyzed by using the program of SPSS/WIN(version 14.0). Aiming to examine which extent the relationship between the mother's child-rearing attitudes perceived by children and the empathic ability and the mother's child-rearing attitudes perceived by children duality dispersion analysis(two-way ANOVA) were carried out.
Given summing up the results that were clarified in this study, those are as follows.
First, the mother's sexual child-rearing attitudes are mutually related with the empathic ability. To look around in the concrete, mother's complete, lovely, self-regulating child-rearing attitudes have positive mutual relation with significant explanatory power on the fantasy, imaging, empathic awakening and empathic concern. In other words, the more children perceive the mother's child-rearing attitude completely, lovely and self-regulatingly, the more get empathic ability higher. The more children perceive the mother's child-rearing attitude more uncompletely, unlovely and regulatingly, the more get empathic ability lower. The other sides, when I compared with their sex, it was shown that girl students were more positive than boy students to significant explanatory power on the fantasy, imaging, empathic awakening and empathic concern that was sub-variables to empathic ability.
Second, it was shown that mother's child-rearing attitude for each grade had significant mutual relation with the empathic ability partially. It was shown that 6th grade students' empathic ability higher than 4th grade students in a province of imaging. But it was shown that 4th grade students' empathic ability is higher than 6th grade students in a province of significant explanatory power on the fantasy, empathic awakening and empathic concern. It was contradictory with hypothesis that the more years of age are higher, the more are empathic ability higher. It was shown that significant explanatory power on the fantasy and imaging were made a difference for each grade. But it was shown that empathic awakening and empathic concern were made no difference for each grade. Significant explanatory power on the fantasy and imaging are cognitive empathic abilities. But empathic awakening and empathic concern are emotional empathic abilities.
Third, it was shown that child-rearing attitude's sub-variable was a great help to explain empathic ability's sub-variable. To look around in the concrete, when I studied relationship between mother's sexual child-rearing attitude and empathic ability, I came at that when mother's child-rearing attitude is complete, lovely and self-regulatingly, cognitive empathic ability, emotional empathic ability and empathic ability are more positive. The more children perceive the mother's child-rearing attitude more positively, the more are children's empathic abilities higher. In other words, it was shown that the more children perceived mother's child-rearing attitude in completely, lovely and self-regulatingly, the more were their empathic ability higher. It was suggested that mothers must bring up children at home completely, lovely and self-regulatingly to raise empathic ability and their sub-variables. And I look forward that this result will be used to raise children's empathic ability and mother's child-rearing attitudes.
