The purpose of this study is to examine the current actual condition and teacher's recognition of the infant early adjustment program in infant day care centers. To achieve this purpose, specific research questions are determined as followings:
1. How is the actual condition of the infant early adjustment program in day care centers?
2. How do teachers implement the infant early adjustment program in day care centers?
3. How is teacher's recognition of the infant early adjustment program in day care centers?
The subjects of this study were 200 teachers who had experience of infant class. Samples were collecㄹted from public, corporate body, private, house, and work place day cares (70 from only-infant day care centers and 130 from general day care centers). The questionnaire consisted of 28 items in total (8 for background of respondent, 7 for actual condition of the infant early adjustment program, 3 for teacher's implementation methods of the program, and 10 for teacher's recognition of the program).
The data was analyzed with SPSSWIN 12.0 and the frequency and percentage of each item were calculated. The result of this study are as followings:
First, it was found that almost all day care centers (94.5%) implemented the infant early adjustment program. Respondents who did not have the infant early adjustment program implied that there was a need for developing a program with appropriate and detailed methods and a program which can be implemented with little manpower and time of teachers.
Second, it was found that 'things that infants are attachment' and 'care room atmosphere' were chosen as practical methods which teachers used for the infant early adjustment program. Things that infants are attachment were provided for making infants feel comfortable in the course of adjustment and care room atmosphere was also for comfortable and relaxed feeling. This means that teachers focused to making environment of day care centers similar to home as comfortable as possible.
Third, it was found that teachers recognition that the infant early adjustment program is very important(98.8%). Teachers are early adjustment program helped infant adapt to day care step by step. It is needed that teachers should observe how infants adapt to day care with systematic way and should develop more objective material for evaluation of their adjustment.
