This thesis intends to pursue the synchronic and diachronic aspects of bronze-age settlement in Daegu region through the three analytical units of settlement archaeology. Based on the three units of analyzing -each structure consisting settlement, the structure of settlement composed by each structure, and the settlement pattern- , it took the discussion for the transition process of bronze-age settlement.
Establishing the spatial range and the synchronicity of settlement are the most difficult problems in studying settlement in terms of settlement archaeology. Studies about the settlement pattern have drawn poor results owing to these factors. And these situation has encouraged established studies for the settlement pattern which is about the great sphere, the whole transition. Thus, this thesis draw up for pursuing regional features and universality. First, it took the chronological dating of bronze-age settlement; the first half and the latter half. And the first half is divided into three phases, the latter is divided into two phases. Based on variation of artifacts and structures -the appearance and disappearance of doble rimed mouth pottery, transition of specific figure, the transition from combined figure to non-figure, and the former existence or nonexistence of burning place or pit in the latter- , it took the division for each phase. Dwellings gathering complicatedly in the settlement are recognized periodically by location of each plane, distance between each dwelling, and direction. Thus, appearance and development of settlement in each basin were chased in terms of settlement archaeology.
The conclusion of this demonstration indicates what the study which have treated great sphere couldn't; concrete context.
The transition of dwelling structure is related to the minimum type of settlement closely, and to the system of settlements distribution. Composition of settlement expands its own size through integrating production of food. There have been general hypothesis which is about the growth from small community to large centre. But regional centre haven't been found in Daegu region. Similar communities in the first half period society of bronze age could be considered as segmentary society. It could be assumed that ranked society would be appeared in the latter half, based on remarkable variation of each settlement size, increased complexity of each structure, and construction of monument.
The grave structures like dolmen or stone coffin tomb which are occupying one of the main element in settlement are not treated on this thesis owing to synchronic problems of dating. That problem would be the next task henceforth.
