This study was designed to assess the positive influence on teachers as well as infants, who joined the portfolio assessment activities, and examine how these portfolio activities affected the young children's basic learning abilities based on the cognitive structure and social skills related to the learning.
In testing my hypothesis, I chose a couple of control groups of 30 5-year-olds from two public kindergartens based on the Kangwondo province. One focus group was conducted by the 10-week portfolio performance activities while the other group was not. The main results are as follow.
First, young children's who took part in portfolio assessment program showed the increase in the basic learning skills - particularly writing and calculating skills instead of reading. But through the quality analysis for each case I checked the changes in all abilities such as reading, writing and calculating. That's why infants can assess themselves reflectively by joining these activities planned by their teachers. In other words, they displayed their own outcome to one another and shared assessment or advice with other peers. Therefore, teachers can understand young children's actual learning level about the basic learning skills and plan the proper teaching and learning strategies
Second, learners through the portfolio assessment activities have improved the subcategories of the social skills such as mastery, self-assertion, self-control, and adaptation in a positive manner. Also, the quality analysis of every case showed the social skills all changed as the time passed by. For these social skills related to young children's learning abilities, the behaviors concerning intellectual understanding, value and attitude not only help learners improve their socialization, but also have a positive effect on the cognitive development.
