The purpose of this study was to make a qualitative analysis of the behavioral aspects of five-year-olds in the process of friendship formation and maintenance in classroom situations to which they were exposed for the first time.
The subjects in this study were two preschool girls and two preschool boys who were at the Western age of five. The two preschool girls were selected to check how they formed a friendship with each other, and the other two were selected to research how they retained their existing friendly relations. Data were gathered during an eight-week period of time by making a participant observation and interviewing the young children and their parents, and a qualitative method was employed to analyze the collected data to find out various phenomena in their daily routine lives.
